What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Clerk position at Island County?
Employee occupying this position performs a variety of specialized, complex and technical duties relating to the operations of the court system.

- Work extensively on statewide computer systems, including the Superior Court Management Information System (SCOMIS) and the Judicial Information System (JIS), inputting and retrieving information and printing reports.
- Provide assistance to the judges and court commissioners, county law enforcement personnel, prosecuting attorneys, public defenders, private attorneys, representatives of state agencies such as DSHS, Washington State Attorney General's office, witnesses and the general public.
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports and/or documents to appropriate agencies as required by law.
- Process criminal and juvenile LFO payments and other incoming payments. This involves posting receipts to the Judicial Receipting System (JRS) and docketing in SCOMIS when applicable.
- Re-create files from microfilm when needed.
- Perform duties of court clerk during trials and hearings. Be responsible for exhibits during trials and hearings.
- File and register Officials' Bonds and other documents as required by statute.
- Issue bench warrants, writs and summonses as ordered.
- Disburse garnishment funds as ordered by the court.
- Enter judgments and satisfactions of judgments into the execution docket record.
- Prepare and distribute various court calendars for judges, court commissioners, Court Administrator and other Law and Justice-related departments.
- File documents received in court, by mail or over the counter. Accurately docket documents in SCOMIS and JIS.
- Respond to written and verbal inquiries, disseminate information and provide court records upon request to the public, law enforcement agencies, state and federal agencies, title companies, credit bureaus and other Law and Justice departments.
- Assist attorneys and the public in filing court-related documents and records. Assist pro se parties applying for Domestic Violence or Antiharassment protection orders.
- Upon request, perform research of court records for individuals, title companies, attorneys and other various agencies.
- Schedule and/or re-schedule court appearances in pro se dissolution matters in accordance with established guidelines.
- Sign in and out subpoenaed witnesses for trials or hearings.
- Issue appropriate Letters as ordered by the court in Probate and Guardianship matters.
- Perform other duties as directed by department head or supervisor.
- Be able to work independently and complete required deadlines.
- Ability to maintain and understand the need for confidentiality.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including personal computers.
- Ability to maintain a high standard of accuracy and efficiency.
- Must have or be able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the legal system.
- Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid change in events, remain calm in stressful and sometimes hostile situations and relate to a variety of personalities in a professional manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing.
- Be independent, self-motivated and able to multi task to meet required deadlines.
- Ability to learn data entry and retrieval of information on statewide computer systems, including SCOMIS, JIS and JRS.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a combination of education, training and/or experience that encompasses the knowledge and skills required to learn and perform the essential functions of this position.
- Paralegal training and/or courtroom experience highly desirable.
- Must have ability to successfully complete any required training classes.
- Must be bondable.
