UI/UX Designer Remote - Remote

As a UI/UX Designer you'll apply your empathy, your expertise in user-centered design, and your love of great user experiences to make life better for men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting the United States and for the immigrants in their care. You'll get to re-imagine, re-design, and rebuild mission-critical software as part of an enterprise-wide effort across US Customs and Border Protection to modernize and replace legacy systems. You'll lead collaboration with Agile team members and government stakeholders to evaluate the current state, understand users' needs, identify the right problems to solve, and iteratively design and deliver effective solutions. You'll make a difference by evangelizing UCD & design thinking and helping to socialize UX as a discipline within the organization.

Your Role

· Conceptualizing and designing custom software applications for a variety of legacy and modernized systems

· Applying user-centered design to create satisfying experiences that balance both user needs and business goals

· Helping to define the future-state vision by facilitating conversations that drive business process re-engineering, information architecture, and workflow

· Collaborating with cross functional teams to establish UX standards, design systems, style guides and pattern libraries

· Developing wireframes, mockups, and/or prototypes to communicate ideas to stakeholders, for usability testing and for hand-off to development

· Using both qualitative and quantitative methods to text, evaluate, and validate designs before, during and after development

· Ensuring designs meet Accessibility standards (508/WCAG) and assisting with testing and remediation, as needed, of front-end code

· Staying current on important industry and customer trends to ensure our applications are delivering relevant solutions

· Being a champion of UCD and evangelizing Design Thinking & UX best practices

What's Required

· Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass CBP background investigation, criteria include but are not limited to: 3 year check for felony convictions; 1 year check for illegal drug use; 1 year check for misconduct such as theft or fraud

· Bachelor's degree or higher in experience design, industrial design, HCI or related field OR equivalent work experience

· A minimum of 3 years of experience in UX or Product Design, with an emphasis on information architecture, interaction design, UI design and usability

· A passion for solving tough user challenges through great design

· The will to take risks and champion new ideas

· Solid understanding of user-centered design and design thinking

· Expertise in UX design/prototyping tools (In particular: Figma, Axure and XD)

· Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG/Section 508) and experience with Accessibility Testing

· Experience defining design standards and creating design systems for enterprise applications

· Experience with responsive and mobile-first design

· Ability to work effectively in an agile environment

· Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to present and defend designs to cross-functional and non-technical audiences

· A detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills

Nice to Have's:

· Certification in UX and/or Design Thinking (NNg, HFI, IDEO, Stanford, etc.)

· Experience creating holistic design systems to bring stand-alone products into alignment as a suite of related applications

· Understanding of Agile, SAFe and Lean UX

· Familiarity with Confluence and Jira
