ABOUT THE SHIPPING LEAD JOB
SHIPPING LEAD SUMMARY
This position leads warehouse team members, ensuring accurate picking, packaging, and timely shipment of customer orders. Acts as a liaison with other departments to ensure customer needs are met.
THE CORE DUTIES OF THE SHIPPING LEAD
Team Leadership
- Serves as a strong role model and trusted resource for the team at ITC.
- Ensures team member compliance with company policies and procedures and offers timely and appropriate feedback when necessary.
- Provides team members with coaching and opportunities to assist them with reaching their goals with ITC.
- Makes recommendations regarding team member disciplinary action to manager.
- Communicates employee concerns with manager and or other leaders as necessary and ensures concerns are addressed in a timely fashion.
- Coordinates initial injury and safety incident management including reporting to Human Resources and following appropriate procedures for initial injury care and drug testing. Initiates timely injury investigations and provides suggestions for improvement followed by taking action on resulting decisions.
- Supervises the activities of workers engaged in shipping products or materials.
Shipping and Receiving
- Respond to customers' or shippers' questions and complaints regarding storage and distribution services.
- Review invoices, customer orders, or demand forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and to issue work assignments.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels of products or materials in warehouses.
- Track and trace goods while they are in route to their destinations.
- Issue shipping instructions and provide routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated.
- Strives for 100% on-time delivery and picking accuracy of customer orders.
- Maintenance and execution of customer specific shipping instructions.
- Proper mode selection for shipping of product.
- Accuracy of processing shipping including rating and shipping terms.
- Inspection of picked product for potential damage.
- Picking and preparation of product for customer samples per sales request.
- Execute proper packaging and skid preparation of product to ensure economical and secure delivery.
- Ensure proper labeling of product for shipping.
- Manage dock schedule with carriers and customers for pickup and delivery.
- Properly handle of necessary paperwork for shipment.
- Properly load truck freight.
- Respond appropriately to corrective actions from customers.
- Properly handle mis-shipped goods from RGA process.
- Track and route product samples to Sales, Engineering and Quality.
- Properly count and process receiving paperwork.
- Properly route RGA product.
- Properly process and stage inter-facility transfers.
- Manage back order fulfillment with Purchasing and Customer Service.
Inventory
- Maintain bin locations for product in the facility
- Take steps to maintain high level of product preservation.
- Execute timely and accurate inventory paperwork.
- Identify and report to Quality any product defects or performance issues.
- Execute physical inventory counts, coordinating information with inventory control.
Other
- Keep all equipment and tools in good working order and return them to designated storage area.
- Maintain warehouse in a neat, organized fashion.
- Secure product and facilities.
- Establish, train and enforce company policies and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures. Report any unsafe condition/behavior.
- Schedule personnel to maintain high level of customer service.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism in appearance, discipline, ethics and morale.
- Continue training and education and assessments on services and equipment.
- Continuous improvement of procedures.
- Maintain a high level of teamwork.
- Other duties as required.

Requirements
JOB DESIRABLES AND REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of experience in shipping and receiving,
- Previous experience with UPS and on-line Federal Express systems.
- At least 1 year experience driving sit down and stand-up forklifts.
- Previous experience using MRP systems for shipping and receiving functions.
- RF gun experience.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a lead position preferred.
- Ability to obtain a forklift license.
- Use of hand, power and pneumatic tools.
- Good driving record.
- Basic computer skills including MS Word and Excel.
- Basic math skills.
- Data entry skills.
