Position Summary
This leader will develop a rapidly growing team and lead the liaison activities between the product design teams and the production teams, from the prototyping phases through LRIP (Low Rate Initial Production). During this process there will be a focus on DFM guidance to the design teams, production cost modeling/tracking, production process efficiencies and stabilization of all factory processes, equipment, NPI and vertical integration initiatives. The position will require extensive collaboration with both internal and external partners ensuring product definition requirements are met for both internal building as well as external contract manufacturing. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish a bridge between the product design teams and the production teams. ● Establish/Deploy/Maintain working product cost models from prototype stage through rate production.
- Establish/Deploy/Maintain a product development project management tool/system to capture all product development revision data, correspondence and documentation, fabrication data and processes in support of NPI activities shared with the production team.
- Represent Manufacturing for all things Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and work with all departments to assure this concept is considered at the earliest possible stage of design ● Be the voice of Production in bringing all NPI, systems, designs, etc. to the factory floor ● Work with Production to drive PFMEA in all processes and product introductions as part of DFM with the goal of protecting production and the customer before introduction to the fab. ● Lead all prototype and first article builds ensuring product definition is completed and capable of supporting both internal and external resource utilization
- Lead a team of manufacturing engineers, fabricators, build technicians, and supervisors that own all things product and process for Manufacturing
- Recruit, manage, coach and mentor a team of experts with various sets of experience to deliver exciting, challenging and aggressive goals
Requirements, Knowledge, and Experience
- Engineering Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the field of Manufacturing/Mechanical/Process Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering in highly complex and automated production environment
- 5 years of experience in people management
- Must be a hands-on manager with the ability to show as well as tell
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen and Continuous Improvements initiatives.
- Knowledge of CAD, OEE-Q, simulation modeling, 8D, prototyping, CnC programming and manual machine operation, as well as all applicable and common use software for Manufacturing Engineering.
