Job Description

Primary Objective:

Responsible for the leadership of the Environmental, Health, Safety functions for the Global MTS platform. This position has primary responsibility for leading the development and implementation of programs and processes that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements as well as internal and external customer requirements. This leadership position reports directly to the Operations Director. The position will work closely with all MTS personnel in achieving the objective of zero injuries and 100% compliance. The EHS Manager will act as the MTS global safety champion and demonstrate strong leadership and excellent communication skills. Manufacturing processes in this facility include fabrication, welding, CNC machining, painting, assembly, and testing of electrical & hydraulic equipment. This position will minimize company risk in the areas of environmental, health and safety.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  1. Ensure compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and MTS/ITW objectives, policies, and procedures.
  2. Coordinate the execution of actions within the organization necessary for successful management of the physical plant and implementation of Environmental, Health, Safety, Medical & Workers’ Compensation processes.
  3. Lead efforts to continuously improve EHS performance and operations, including safety improvement programs and corrective actions. Define and lead EHS improvement initiatives across the site (ergonomics, industrial hygiene, engineering controls, PPE, etc.).
  4. Manage workers compensation claims and files, with support from MTS leaders and ITW.
  5. Identify opportunities to successfully integrate EHS programs/activities into overall business operations.
  6. Support the evaluation of health and safety impacts of implementing new floor plan layouts and work processes prior to site introduction.
  7. Lead the response to environmental, health and safety concerns raised by employees and participate in accident/incident investigations.
  8. Interface, as necessary, with government agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and DOT to maintain regulatory compliance (audits, annual reports, applications for permits, etc.).
  9. Provide advice and guidance on the interpretation and application of acts/regulations/requirements related to EHS.
  10. Review all corrective actions related to EHS issues and ensure that actions are fully implemented, effective and sustainable.
  11. Work as a change agent with plant leadership and safety team to achieve world class safety, health, and industrial hygiene performance.
  12. Conducts training in areas such as: ergonomics, emergency response team, lockout/tag out, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.
  13. Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments so that emergency responses can be facilitated.
  14. Drive ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) initiatives to ensure MTS platforms are compliant with ITW policies and expectations.
  15. Ability to lead and influence local champions without direct authority.
  16. Other job duties and responsibilities as required by business.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety or related field combined with relevant work experience required.
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial health and safety and 5 years managing the environmental, health and safety function in a fast-paced, complex large global multi-site manufacturing and field service environment.
  • Proven ability to identify, investigate, correct, and document potential environmental, health, safety non-conformances.
  • Comprehensive problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to provide focus and leadership to achieve effective implementation and maintenance of EHS and security programs.
  • Detailed knowledge of policies, procedures, and programs as they relate to administration, environmental, health, safety, and security efforts.
  • Ability to set the vision and demonstrate a sense of urgency around maintaining a safe and efficient workplace.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed; customer oriented and a strategic thinker, focusing EHS and security efforts on critical business needs.
  • Possess strong leadership skills, with exceptional proficiency in interpersonal communications including the ability to influence others.
  • Strong advocate for change with a bias for action.

Travel Requirements

•           Ability to travel globally (up to 20%)
