At ITW Hobart you will be working with other electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to design, implement, and maintain our world food machines devices. The Food Machines Division produces commercial Hobart branded food machines equipment for the Grocery/Retail and Food Service industries. Job Description
Position Summary
Embedded Systems Engineer for multi-level, analog/digital design & development, integrating electronics with mechanical systems for control of the company’s food machines products.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for system level and board level analog/digital hardware design and software development projects for control of the company’s food machines products.
- System engineering and integration of electronics with mechanical systems.
- Work with contractors, and vendors as needed to deliver related project deliverables such as PCBA, firmware, and software design.
- Develop proof of concepts and prototypes using rapid prototyping options such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, programmable relays, or PLC’s.
- Perform design, simulation, and test of analog/digital circuit and software functions.
- Generate, revise, update, and document existing hardware/software configurations, including troubleshooting, repair, and improving system functionality.
- Work with vendors and suppliers on custom quotations and to resolve delivery or performance issues.
- Coordinate with the quality department on safety and regulatory requirements, testing and certification.
- Support manufacturing, transfer designs from development to production and diagnose manufacturing problems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, and 4 years of experience.
- Experience with interfacing analog circuits and digital peripherals with embedded micro- controllers.
- Strong experience, 4 years, hands on work experience in electronics design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and familiarity with components and technologies.
- Ability to direct a forward-thinking digital controls design specification and manage a firm in creating electronics to meet project deliverables.
- Preferred proficiency in software development, including embedded programming languages such as C/C or similar.
- Preferred experience developing products involving some or all of the following: motors, motor control circuits, VFD’s, PCB’s, digital controls, HMI’s, safety interlocks, and system wiring.
- Preferred familiarity with electrical standards and conformance such as UL and NEC.
- Proven record of developing, implementing, and managing robust product designs.
- Proficient in all computer-related software packages (Microsoft Office, etc.) and additional technologies as required to execute engineering projects.
- Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and deliver results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, negotiation, and knowledge sharing across technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to support diverse internal and external teams.
