POSITION SUMMARY:
Tooling Specialist is based at our Seats Automotive manufacturing facility in Lakeville, Connecticut. As the sole Tooling representative for the plant, and as a key member of the Production team, the Tooling Specialist’s primary responsibilities include experiment, design, repair, construct, alter and perform or manage maintenance on the tools as needed for specific manufacturing equipment and machines and providing support to engineering and production as it relates to tooling.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: May include some of the following:
- Devise special mechanisms to meet or obtain specific requirements.
- Use a variety of precision measuring instruments.
- Troubleshoot and repair a variety of intricate tools on any/all presses.
- Perform skilled bench work - fitting, assembling, adjusting, and repairing of production equipment and tooling. Grind and shape forming and cutting tools.
- Make tool tryouts and detect and correct problems.
- Make gauges and instruct operators.
- Work with Supervisors and Managers to maintain production. Work with Engineering to update tool drawings.
- Properly fill out all paperwork, including tooling PM sheets, process adjustment logs, etc.
- Work directly with tooling vendors to schedule and coordinate tooling repair requests and administer detailed records for all tools.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment always.
- Perform other duties as assigned or instructed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Completed apprenticeship in Tool & Die.
- Strong blueprint reading and comprehension capability; technical data capability.
- Knowledge of the following equipment: Lathes, milling machines, all types of grinding machines, power saws, hydraulic and manual arbor and other types of presses, and all other toolroom equipment and practices.
- Ability to apply shop math, perform heat treatment, work from blueprints, engineering sketches, specification sheets, samples, and verbal instructions.
- Experience working with mold construction and repairs.
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Self-managed individual with strong decision-making skills
