Job Title: Shop Manager Department: Production & Skilled Trades Country: United States of America State/Province: Washington City: Sumner Full/Part Time: Full time Job Summary: Under general direction, this position will oversee and prioritize all aspects of small to mid-sized facilities and a limited number of accounts. The incumbent will manage the day to day planning and organizing of shop personnel and projects to meet business needs. The incumbent will manage facility audits, inventory, budgets, and meeting goals. Execute change management plans for any shop changes. Oversee and/or manage facility staffing. Consult with leadership on equipment updates, details, and reporting. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full-time attendance. Key Responsibilities: Maintain the company's safety culture by promoting a safe work environment in compliance with federal and state regulations, conduct safety meetings, mock OSHA inspections, model safe work habits, etc. across multiple facilities and sites Other duties as assigned Perform multiple personnel management tasks including but not limited to staffing, performance management, annual reviews, and time and attendance Manage new hire orientation and onboarding process Perform daily operational tasks as needed including estimates, down unit reporting, yard checks, etc. Develop facility budgets; monitor expenses related to shop management in order to maintain the budget Oversee EPA and state regulations testing and reporting Liaise with operations daily on equipment needs, requests, answer phones, review daily reports, assist drivers and other requests as needed Work with Foreman for proper job coding, warranty, rail and customer damage recovery, and proper parts usage Perform ready line inspections to ensure quality, proper repair procedures are followed and equipment meets all federal and state DOT requirements Direct employee staffing and scheduling of shop and service trucks to meet customer needs, reduce equipment downtime, and limit outsourcing costs Monitor shop workflow to improve utilization and production and meet our customers' needs Oversee technical training for employees, ensure proper diagnostic and repair procedures are followed to control and reduce maintenance and cost Oversee safety training of all employees to reduce workers compensation cost and cultivate a positive safety culture Qualifications: Minimum Qualification: High School Diploma or GED equivalent 5 or more years of related experience and 3-5 years of direct or indirect management experience. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to act professionally Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively Ability to document information and make quick decisions Ability to lift or carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs Ability to manage a team Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE) Ability to work both individually and as a team Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to work with under minimal direction.
