Description
Essential Functions:
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Comply with plant safety procedures to ensure a safe environment.
- Account for time and work completed via online computer data collection system.
- Operate machine tools such as milling machines and grinders to produce metal parts.
- Review electronic or written blueprints or specification for a job.
- Calculate where to cut or bore.
- Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.
- Determine how much material to remove.
- Select tools and materials for the job.
- Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
- Mark the work-piece to show where cuts should be made.
- Position work-piece on the drill press, lathe or milling machine.
- Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
- Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
- Performs other related duties.
Education:
- High school Diploma or similar degree
- GED
Requirements
Experience and Background:
- Demonstrate competency in basic shop math.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and other shop drawing aids.
- Flexible and responsive, with a strong teamwork orientation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
