The Financial Analyst is a member of the Finance Department and reports to the Manager, FP&A. He/she is responsible for preparing budgets for all grant proposals, providing department-specific budgets for awarded grants/contracts, tracking the status and profitability of all active grants, and preparing budget reconciliations at the conclusion of a program. The Financial Analyst will work closely with the Manager, FP&A to ensure that all financial reports are produced accurately and in a timely manner. This individual will also work with each department to ensure that the company’s financial and accounting processes are communicated clearly and effectively.
Position Duties
- Develop accurate and timely project budgets for grants/proposals and input detailed budgets into customer grant portals.
- Develop key statistics, on a per-budget basis, to highlight profitable and fair market value price points.
- Use company-specific and overall market data to help drive financial decisions.
- Assist and work directly with the Business Development team to develop program concept estimates.
- Manage, oversee, and consistently update shared documents in collaboration with other departments.
- Prepare profitability analyses for each project following the conclusion of a grant.
- Update weekly KPI reports sent to management and parent company.
- Meet with department heads to determine the staff labor hours required to complete a project.
- Make recommendations to leadership with regards to where the companies’ resources are most efficiently allocated based on profitability and the labor required to complete projects.
- Support the Manager, FP&A with the development of accurate and timely project budgets for grants and research proposals.
- Perform monthly P&L variance analysis on an account and project level.
- Compile back-up documentation to assist in milestone and final reconciliations of grants.
- Monitor grant expenses on a project level to ensure relevant expenses are accrued on a monthly basis in accordance with the project budget.
- Contribute to yearly budgeting and forecasting activities at the direction of the Manager, FP&A and SVP, Finance & Operations.
- Assist in tracking, updating, and amending revenue on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Assist in the month-end closing process including balance sheet account reconciliations, reviewing AR aging, and preparing GL account re-classes.
- Ad-hoc projects and reporting using Microsoft Excel.
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; NetSuite experience a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to maintain complete confidentiality in all matters pertaining to Finance and Human Resources
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
