Position Summary:
Central Service Assistants perform assignments in one or more work areas of a large sterile service unit which processes, sterilizes, maintains and dispenses supplies and equipment used in patient care, diagnosis and treatment. Incumbents complete repetitive tasks daily in washing and cleaning, packaging or wrapping supplies, assembling treatment trays and sets, arranging linen for autoclaving, operating steam, dry heat or gas sterilizers as assigned and receiving, shelving and issuing sterile supplies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Picks up and delivers equipment to various areas of the hospital. Maintains list of equipment due for preventive maintenance. Assembles and disassembles equipment due for preventative maintenance. Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and work rooms used by the department. Maintains stock of equipment and supplies for the department. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education:
High School diploma is required.
License Certification:
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
Knowledge Skill Abilities:
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
Physical Demands:
Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
