Your Impact:
Jacobs is looking for a Chemist to join our team in Quantico! Position allows for some remote work.
The role includes applying knowledge of and experience with chemical markings and detection techniques tailored to the customer’s specific requirements, develop and analyze materials and detections systems that meet customer requirements, evaluate technical reports from outside vendors for suitability to meet customer requirements, and support field collection and analysis requirements.
Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct research concerned with design, manufacture and testing of chemical components, analytical or detection equipment, and systems, including application of material and detectors to customer uses
- Collect and analyze multivariate data sets for customer, in particular spectroscopy data. Negotiate material, sensor, and/or design requirements internally and with customer vendor representatives
- Analyze and prepare documentation for customer. Ensure documentation is correct and is in accordance with proper laboratory techniques and specifications.
- Analyze activities concerned with specific materials and applications to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements
- Develop test procedures and methods to support development of operational testing
- Analyze operational requirements and recommend materials or sensor designs to meet customer needs, or modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions
- Maintain liaison with customer’s contractor or vendor representatives to view, monitor, and evaluate conformity to project task specifications and project schedules.
- Apply various spectroscopic methods for the detection and identification of elements/compounds and directly supporting the development of signature enhancing taggants, development of chemical/biochemical sensors for natural signatures and preparation of chemically driven tags for use with spectral sensors.
- Prepared status and progress reports and periodically brief customer representatives on the program or project status
- Advise customer on laboratory technique and safety-related best practices, including potentially overseeing a customer laboratory facility
- Perform standard laboratory and office duties, additionally including some climbing and lifting up to 30 lbs. unassisted
- Some testing may require work in airborne (fixed and rotary wing) or seaborne platforms.
- Occasional travel in support of field operations may be required and some physical stress in support of customer’s mission may be anticipated
- Work occasional overtime as needed and as directed by the customer in support of mission critical requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.S in Chemistry
- Must possess and maintain Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
- 5 years of work experience in spectroscopy or a closely related field
- Extensive laboratory experience using spectroscopic techniques for analysis and identification of materials
- Microsoft office literacy
- Good oral and written communication and presentation skills
Desired Skills/Requirements (nice to have but not required, ex. Education):
- Mathematics
- Image Science
- Physics or related field
- Work experience with material markings, spectral analysis, and optical filtration techniques
- Extensive spectroscopy experience
- Extensive experience with ENVI IDL image and spectral processing software
