The Inland Northwest division of Jacobs in Yakima, WA includes a team supporting our Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) client. We are looking for a Land Survey Technician (Seasonal) to support our Construction Management Practice with Construction Phase Surveying. As part of our team your primary responsibility will be to assist WSDOT in the field survey data collection and office processing of many exciting Construction Projects in Central Washington. Project tasks include:
- Performing all duties on a survey crew including operation of a variety of instruments such as levels, GNSS, data collector and multi and/or total station.
- Applying industry standard Survey and/or WSDOT practices and judgment in assisting in the preparation of location, geodetic and/or plane surveys
- Setting up and assist with Traffic Control for Survey Operations.
- Completing Site Specific Safety Plans. Taking notes manually or with the data collector.
- Editing data, access programs, and operate personal computer to calculate alignment data, triangulations, benchmarks, grades, etc
Our WSDOT client is delivering several significant design transportation projects that have regional and/or statewide significance. Some Jacobs staff are co-located with our client at the WSDOT South Central Region (SCR) Headquarters office, while field crews travel within SCR and statewide. Co-location provides our staff with many training opportunities and a seamless integration into a blended team of consultant and state employees working together to deliver these high-profile projects.
This position will mostly be a seasonal assignment based in Washington – Yakima, WA area; estimation will be 3-9 months.
- Compensation Rate: $30-$50 an hour (based on experience)
- Overtime Eligible
- Per-diem* (meals & lodging provided as necessary): up to 7 days a week based on WSDOT rates (tax free)
As a project-specific employee (Seasonal) , you are not eligible for severance pay under the Company's Severance Pay Plan and will not be paid severance pay at the termination of your project employment, irrespective of any prior severance-eligible service.

- 5 years of land survey experience, preferably related to Design and Construction of Transportation Projects.
- Knowledge and Experience working with Leica Survey Equipment
- Knowledge of WSDOT Survey Processes and Principles.
- Valid Drivers license and good driving record.
