Provide Radio Frequency (RF) engineering support to the ES31 E3, RF & GN&C Branch of the Space Systems Department in the Engineering Directorate at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. The RF support required is for the Human Lander System program. This is an opportunity to grow your career in the areas of aerospace/avionics, and space hardware applications.
The RF support to be provided will include communications system design, analyses, support, and Subsystem Block Diagram development for RF systems. The selected candidate will evaluate Functional Test Reports for Components and Subsystems, Test Procedures and Reports for Component/Subsystem Qualification/Acceptance Testing, and Procurement Specifications for RF Components and Subsystems. In addition, this individual will have the opportunity to prepare inputs to, or assist in development of:
- Project documentation
- Requirements verification
- Requirements validation
- Presentation and trade study reports/packages
A BS degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Direct RF experience in antennas, RF systems design, testing, and evaluation.
• MS with at least 3 years of experience, or
• BS with at least 5 years of experience."
Proficiency is preferred with:
- Mathematical Analyses (MATLAB, MathCAD, Excel)
- Link Margin Analyses (Satellite Took Kit, MATLAB, MathCAD,)
- Operational knowledge of RF Lab Test Equipment (RF Receivers, RF Transmitters, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators)
- Technical expertise in environmental testing in support of RF/GPS Components/Subsystems (TVAC, Vibe, EMC/EMI, RF Compatibility)
- Familiarity with Programming Languages (C, Visual Basic).
Excellent organizational skills and an ability to perform technical tasks independently is required.
Essential Functions
Work Environment
Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).
Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
