The Position
As a member of the Further Processing management team, the Director of Operations is responsible for the manufacturing operations of the Sandusky site encompassing five direct report and one hundred indirect reports.
The Director of Operations drives performance through the development of short and long-term operating goals and standards for safety, continuous improvement, quality, cost reduction, and production efficiency. They are also responsible for financial performance of the operation and providing feedback to management on profitability.
This position reports to the VP/GM – Further Processing for Safety, Cost, Delivery, and Quality.

Responsibilities
Position Responsibilities
- Create a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement at Sandusky
- Identify and implement process improvements in safety, 5S, lean manufacturing, quality, planning and sourcing and achieve key performance measurements related to personnel safety, quality, service, and cost.
- Implement/Improve daily management for manufacturing output and quality, as well as planning and sourcing
- Lead site operations and track KPI’s to ensure business achieves performance standards in all manufacturing and sourcing metrics. Responsible for cost reduction, sourcing savings, and performance improvement
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and achieve company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on effective and efficient operations and improvement in processes from order to cash
- Drive the overall facility manufacturing strategy, including capacity planning, make versus buy decisions, development of manufacturing processes, and establishment and achievement of cost, quality, and delivery targets
- Oversee preparation of operational schedules and planning, coordinate manufacturing and sourcing activities to ensure on time delivery
- Develop and motivate a highly skilled manufacturing and purchasing team. Drive performance management and talent development. Build strong employee relations with open communication, respect, consistent application of policies, continuous improvement, and empowerment of team members. Develop and support managers responsible for all aspects of production, purchasing, assembly, shipping, and receiving

- Develop specific short-term and long-term plans and investments to improve productivity and capacity, prepare funding requests with budgets and justifications as needed

Qualifications
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Business, Engineering, or technical field. Master’s degree or MBA desirable
- 10 years of increasingly responsible manufacturing experience and direct management experience.
- Direct experience building and instilling a “best in class” operations environment.
- Experience developing and implementing Lean practices and KPI actions plans for manufacturing improvement priorities.
- Experience leading supply chain and planning management.
- Experience in developing and implementing KPI actions plans for manufacturing improvement priorities
- Experience in operations, supply chain and planning management
- Demonstrated knowledge and application history of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement
- Collaborative management style which builds strong teamwork culture
- Clear understanding of financial principles for operations, including firm understanding of cost, inventory, and P&L
- Strong background in industry standard safety processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and gain followership
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written form effectively with a diverse team
