Job Summary:
The Advocate Counselor provides individual and group counseling , case management, advocacy , referrals and crisis intervention to adolescents at Liberation Diploma Plus High School. Advocate Counselors assist in implementing other aspects of the Learning to Work program in close collaboration with agency and school personnel.
Job Duties:
· Monitor student attendance and educational progress.
· Provide counseling and conduct attendance outreach including homes visits and visits to work sites.
· Facilitate student advisory groups
· Recruit students and conduct intake assessments and interviews.
· Provide conflict mediation and assistance with out-of-school issues.
· Assist with referrals to outside resources, including employment, emergency shelter, day care and additional social services.
· Complete program documentation, statistics, and assisting guidance counselor with school records.
· Support student growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
· Orient students to the program and assist them in developing and implementing academic goal plans and post-secondary goals.
· Work as collaborative team with faculty to support student progress.
· Partner with Youth Internship Coordinator and Guidance Counselor regarding post-secondary planning which may
include financial aid, college applications and career development.
· Engage students’ families to support positive outcomes for the student. Assisting families with identified needs.
· Participate in staff meetings, overnight retreats, staff development, proms, award ceremonies and graduation.
Qualifications:
· Associate's degree in related along with a minimum of two years' of experience supporting youth and families; Bachelor's degree preferred
· Must have excellent communication, written and organizational skills.
· Must be knowledgeable of youth development and able to implement best practices to achieve desirable outcomes.
· Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
· Experience and demonstrated skills in working with “at-risk” youth and their families.
· Familiarity with NYC Education system preferred.
· Extensive experience working with adolescents individually and in groups.
· Commitment to assisting students in understanding and working with the school mission and philosophy.
· Commitment to working as a member of the school team
Pay rate: $19 -$24.70 per hour
