What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at JCCA?
Essential Job Functions:
- Greet and log in patients arriving at office or clinic.
- Verify the foster children information by interviewing, recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
- Perform and record vital signs, heights and weights; perform vision and hearing tests for children in foster care;
- Perform phlebotomy and EKGs as ordered by the clinician;
- Coordinate dental van and clinic schedules, and chaperone youth to the appointments as needed;
- Maintain current photographs of youth in the medical records;
- Manage Immunizations Reports with CIR;
- Request Newborn Screenings for foster children (as needed);
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
- Check stock of immunizations & rotate vaccines. Assure compliance of vaccine storage, ordering and documentation according to Vaccine for Children program.
- Keep supplies ready by keeping stock inventory current; place orders and verify orders receipt.
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
- Maintain and monitor refrigerator/freezer temperature logs;
- Generate monthly clinic reports;
- Schedule medical appointments with hospital based and community providers;
- Coordinate medical records flow between JCCA and community providers;
- Complete and file requests & authorization forms for medical records;
- File documents and maintain medical records;
- Track discharges and transfer of youth;
- Complete, mail and/or distribute correspondence
Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and in performance of electrocardiograms.
- Basic Mid-level competency in Microsoft applications or other similar programs.
- Capable of clear, direct communication with others (oral/written).
Required Certification/Licensing:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical Assistant Certification or Phlebotomy/EKG Technician Certification
- CPR certification
