Role Summary
The Economist will research, collect, and communicate local, regional and/or national economic impacts as related to the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
- Autonomy & Decision-Making: Makes decisions on non-routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor, and refers all exceptions to supervisor.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core
ECONOMIST FAMILY – CORE
- Identifies and researches current events that affect the construction industry, internal and external clients, and design partner decision making.
- Integrates current events and raw economic data into a format that quickly and easily relates to our internal and external clients and design partners.
- Develops relevant graphical representation of economic data for internal and external clients and design partner communications.
- Evaluates market results and conditions for market inefficiency and proposes changes based on sound economic theory.
- Coordinates with Communications department to create regular market updates.
- Develops clean data sets consumable by appropriate data presentation software.
- Coordinates with IT to investigate regular evaluation and automation of data collection processes to determine the most efficient approach.
- Manages team’s development of quarterly cost indices for all participating offices and markets.
- Manages team’s data collection and regularly updates economic dashboards.
- Mentors peers on workflow to support quarterly Cost Index and economic dashboard updates.
- Presents economic outlook at Industry Events and Conferences, and/or as requested by Client and Design Partners.
- Conducts presentations at internal company meetings, leadership conferences, and executive leadership and board events.
- Responsible for producing, publishing, and presenting economic thought leadership within the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry.
- Promotes training and development activities for other staff members.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Accounting, or related field (Required)
- Background in Journalism or English Literature (Preferred)
- In lieu of the above requirements, relevant experience will be considered
Experience
- 8 years experience in economic research and analytics (Preferred)
- 8 years experience in AEC Industry (Preferred)
Working Environment
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
- May require periods of overnight travel
- Normal office environment
