Overview
Jensen Hughes is seeking a talented Research Engineer in Baltimore, MD, or Blacksburg, VA. The position will be for the Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDTE) division. This exciting group includes an interdisciplinary team of machine learning engineers, CFD engineers, FEM engineers, and laboratory/testing engineers working on a range of projects, from fundamental research to transitioning research into industrial applications. The selected candidate should have a proven ability to understand and solve complex, multidisciplinary problems involving laboratory testing, computational modeling, and machine learning.
Responsibilities
Research areas of interest include but are not limited to:
- Fire dynamics
- Wildland fire risk management
- Meteorology and atmospheric dispersion
- Community evacuation and emergency management
- Social sciences and demographics
- Other areas related to physics-based modeling, fire testing, and machine learning
- Other areas related to advancing the science of safety
The candidate will be expected to support on-going research and commercial efforts in the RDT&E division at Jensen Hughes and support our growth in externally funded research. This participation is expected to include but is not limited to:
- Conducting research tasks
- Writing technical publications on the research
- Presenting at conferences and stakeholder meetings
- Participating in related industry committees
- Writing proposals for new research
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a related field (Engineering, Mathematics, Material Science, etc.)
- 3-5 years post-graduate research experience
- Experience in managing research projects
- Experience in budgeting for commercial and government projects
Desired Qualifications:
- 5-10 years post-graduate research experience
- Experience in conducting commercial research
- Experience in people management
- Experience in fire testing
- Experience in computational modeling
- Experience in SBIR / BAA / STTR proposals
- US citizenship
- DOD/DOE security clearance
- PE/FPE certification
