ABOUT THE COMPANY: In 1925 the J. G. Boswell Company planted in California’s San Joaquin Valley and grew to become one of the largest farmers in the world. Boswell produces, processes, and markets tomatoes, Pima cotton, and pistachios. The company has taken its farming tradition and enhances it through innovations in every step of the growing process and has developed many of the new techniques and equipment used in modern farming today.
JOB SUMMARY: Under direction from the Plant Manager, the Aseptic Mechanic will be responsible for, but not limited to, overseeing the daily operations of the Aseptic Room, and direct supervision of staff and processes in the manufacturing of aseptic tomato paste packed in drums/bins during seasonal harvest. The aseptic mechanic will work with colleagues to ensure efficiency in aseptically packaged products produced and in ensuring customer quality and service expectations are being met. The position will have up to 35 direct reports that include forklift operators, machine operators, and general laborers. The Aseptic mechanic will ensure the facility is operating according to the policies and procedures defined in the Quality Systems and Operations Manual.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES: - Perform and facilitate preventative and responsive maintenance involving plant equipment such as; pumps, valves, lines, separators, heaters, ejectors, gearboxes, turbines, with colleagues and contractors.
- Direct supervision and well-being of employees engaged in the support or manufacturing of bulk tomato paste on any of three shifts of operation.
- Provide safety and job specific training to employees.
- Execution of production requirements from daily production schedule.
- Manufacturing products within specifications or pack requirements.
- Maintain process requirements for sterilization of equipment through CIP/COP operations.
- Evaluate parts needed for repair of equipment, order parts, complete work orders, and purchase orders.
- Efficient repair of processing equipment to reduce downtime.
- Schedule and coordinate with sanitation personnel for adequate sanitation of equipment/buildings and structures to prevent cross-contamination and mold growth.
- Use and enforcement of Good Manufacturing Practices throughout the operations.
- Effective scheduling and coordination with human resources for staffing support.
- Must be knowledgeable in HACCP and CCP procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
OTHER SKILLS/DUTIES: - Self-driven and passionate in meeting company goals and objectives.
- Computer skills, MS Office programs, and working knowledge of emails.
- Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.
- Must be observant, organized, and detailed oriented.
- Must function well in fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to prioritize and delegate duties as situations arise.
- Perform employee conflict resolution, documenting corrective actions for employees, and periodic performance evaluations.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Ability to work with little to no supervision.
- Prior leadership experience.
- Must be available to work extended days and hours during the season (approximately July through October) or as needed due to production requirements.
- Must be open to work any shift (days and nights).
- Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, in English with all levels of employees.
- Ability to provide technical support for process and mechanical systems.
- Ability to lead and motivate subordinates.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Required: - High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 3 years of mechanical experience.
Preferred: - Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical), Food Science, or related field.
- Working knowledge of Quality policies and procedural methods.
- Working knowledge of Employee Health & Safety Practices.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of manufacturing and/or plant equipment.
- Experience in food manufacturing and/or food processing.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: N/A Safety Expectations: - Responsible for performing all job requirements in a safe manner using the proper PPE.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety by being a role model.
- Responsible for correcting/reporting unsafe behaviors or equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
- Meet requirements to wear respirator equipment for vessel entry.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, dry, or windy weather conditions.
- Area of supervision will be inside and out of Aseptic Department as required.
- Exposure to high levels of noise.
- Work in high traffic, wet, and slippery conditions.

Pay Range - $23-32/hour
