POSITION OVERVIEW
JGM is seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable apprentice for their growing shop team! Reporting to the Fabrication Superintendent, JGM’s Shop Apprentice and will help production workers by performing ancillary duties in a safe manner. Responsibilities include supplying or holding materials or tools, cleaning work area and equipment, as well monitoring safety conditions and identifying hazards under the guidance of the shop superintendent. Additional responsibilities include:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances with the use of various martial handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jacks and overhead cranes.
- Operate machinery used in the production process, or assist machine operators.
- Place products in equipment or on work surfaces for further processing, inspecting, or finishing.
- Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
- Start machines or equipment to begin production processes.
- Inspect equipment to maintain functionality; communicate equipment issues in a timely manner to avoid down time.
- Set-up and operate machinery to support the fabrication of structural steel. This would include automated and manual punching, shearing and drilling.
- Commitment to self-improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Degree, or GED equivalent preferredSafety focused. Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
- Desire to learn how to weld/fabricate structural steel.
- Able to work in a collaborative, team environment.
- A thirsty brain for learning and growing professionally.
- An excellent communicator, comfortable with asking clarifying questions.

ENVIRONMENT
Shop employees perform physically demanding work including lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some work can happen outdoors in all weather conditions. Some jobs expose workers to harmful materials or chemicals, fumes, odors, loud noise, or dangerous machinery. Some workers may be exposed to lead-based paint, asbestos, or other hazardous substances during their work especially when working in confined spaces. To avoid injury, workers in these jobs wear safety clothing, such as gloves, hardhats, protective chemical suits, and devices to protect their eyes, respiratory system, or hearing. It is important that all workers exercise caution and are able to deal with or identify a variety of hazards.
