What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at JLAN Solutions?

Are you a Controller with Federal government contracting experience and excel at supporting small businesses? Are you interested in joining a team of Washington-DC based professionals to lend your expertise in accounting management? 


JLAN Solutions is a Washington, DC-based woman-owned, 8(a) certified government consulting firm dedicated to delivering top-tier solutions for federal government contracts. We're a small team of employees and are seeking a Controller to join our team on a full-time basis.


This role will oversee and implement federal and internal accounting business needs, processes and foster best practice adoption. As part of a small business, you will handle both routine and more complex issues that arise. You’ll also develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.


If you’re a senior accounting professional with experience in areas such as federal core provisional pricing/rates, have an interest in overseeing small business tax matters, and applying your business acumen to ensuring financial licenses and corporate polices are up to date, this may be the job for you! 

 


What you’ll be doing: 


  • Implementing and overseeing best practice processes for general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial statements and financial reporting
  • Supervising junior accounting staff and providing oversight for HR onboarding and employee benefits
  • Working with leadership to determine pricing for federal proposals and preparing cost allocations in compliance with Government FAR requirements
  • Performing month end closing procedures and prepare accurate financial statements and reports, reconciling bank accounts and manage all banking relationships
  • Developing and maintaining accounting systems for cash management
  • Creating and processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit card transactions
  • Supervising accuracy of payroll timeliness/accuracy and reviewing monthly reporting and implement monthly variance reporting
  • Managing the cash flow, preparing cash flow forecasts, and tracking corporate assets and their depreciation


What you’ll bring to the table:


  • 8 years of experience with financial reporting and analysis to include setting budgets, forward forecasting, profitability, cash flow 
  • 5 years of experience of progressively responsible experience in accounting or auditing (with emphasis in accounting) that includes substantive experience  in journal entries, financial statements, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, and invoice processing 
  • 5 years of experience working within Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and accounting principles as applied to government contracting
  • 5 years of experience with PROCAS Accounting System is a must, including Project Budget and Project Reports, or similar ERP and Quickbooks for Payroll (or similar platforms)
  • 5 years of experience administering 401(k) and health benefits
  • 2 years of experience to Service Contract Act (SCA) contract accounting and General Services Administration (GSA)/Industrial Funding Fee (IFF) reporting
  • Experience recommending new technologies and examining an organization's processes for efficiency and effectiveness, recommend/implement appropriate changes and utilize systems to improve operational efficiencies and profitability
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Financial related field; MBA a plus
  • 2 years of experience managing a small team of professionals


Preferred qualifications:

  • SCA employee experience, union employee experience (understands CBAs), pricing at the prime and subcontractor level
  • Financial modeling
  • Can work with leadership to establish relationships with new banks, lenders, etc.
  • Experience implementing new payroll system
  • Experience implementing new GL/Accounting system
  • Experience with Joint Ventures and/or M&A


SALARY:  Negotiable depending on experience and education levels.  JLAN offers a full benefits package including 401(k) match, vision, health and dental.
