What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Software Development position at JMP?
What you’ll do:
You will lead efforts for JMP software license management to ensure that the technologies used across the enterprise adhere to a common architecture, as necessary for them to work well together and form a cohesive & interoperable ecosystem. You will ensure that the technical aspects of applications adhere to the strategic business goals of the company. This includes, but is not limited to producing sound designs that facilitate reuse and rapid response to developing business needs. This individual will also collaborate with other architects/developers/management to ensure these goals are met. You will hire and develop a team to help you implement these goals as necessary to achieve these growing business goals.
You will:
- Identify, analyze & document change opportunities for people, processes and technology in order to achieve desired business vision and outcomes. This includes producing artifacts such as business capability models, scenario plans, design documents/diagrams, impact assessments, reference architectures and roadmaps.
- Contribute in a leadership/influencer role to the alignment of IT strategy and planning with JMP’s business goals. You will justify increased staffing, hire and train individuals to help implement these goals.
- Work with project teams to lead and review architectural designs, articulate the business value of proposed solutions and consult on architectural improvements.
- Critically and logically analyze cost,risk and benefits of alternative designs; ensures design tradeoffs are formally documented and still support the delivery of business objectives and customer requirements.
- Research, prototype and advocate for needed technology and design changes across the enterprise; enforce design and technology decisions that have a broad impact.
- Set proper expectations to ensure customer satisfaction; maintains an up-to-date knowledge of JMP functional business needs and the application portfolio as a context for technological research & recommendations.
- Mentor developers & system architects in best practices and encourage the flow of information and understanding amongst teams.

- Performs majority of primary responsibilities listed on projects independently
- Expected to ask questions and seek assistance as required without prompting
- Primary duties are typically focused on system or business architecture
Other knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Understanding of both functional and technical requirements of the product, component or technical area for which the job position is responsible
- Understanding of applications and integration points within the global JMP ecosystem
- Understanding of system software design in areas such as user interface, web application development, programming languages and platforms, Security, Performance, Server Design, distributed and interoperable technologies, Storage (relational, OLAP, etc.), globalization
- Ability to comprehend the details of complex system software
- Stays up-to-date with upcoming & maturing technologies in the industry & across JMP
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Ability to present or demonstrate a solution and highlight technological and functional benefits
- You enjoy writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, preferably in Computer Science or related field.
Experience
Five years of programming or architecture experience. Mastery of at least one or more of the technical specialties listed above.
