Saw Operator

Job Summary: Performs production activities on all saws

Essential Functions:

• Understands and follows all company safety policies and procedures.
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances and operational sequences
• Reviews work orders instructions or other written specifications
• Selects material to be saw cut according to processing picker instructions and verifies size and grade.
• Positions work pieces for processing; may operate a combination of different machines to process
• Uses gauges, calipers indicators or rulers for measurement;
• Installs and aligns specified cutting blades or other fixtures in saw using gauges, templates,
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed and feed rates
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane
• Examines finished work pieces for conformance to quality standards
• Records information such as tag number, number of work pieces processed, machine readings and dates and times of product production
• May mark all material after processing, store material for additional processing and/or package for shipping.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Responsibilities:

• Basic reading and writing comprehension in English (to read instructions, tickets, safety and policies manuals)
• Basic measuring skills to read and convert English and Metric systems
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions
• Must be able to read a tape measure and pass a tape measure test in both English and Metric
• Experience with overhead crane operation and be certified as operator.

Physical Requirements:

In a typical workday, employee is standing, walking, seeing, hearing, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, lifting work pieces weighing up to forty (40) lbs. manually or by crane to work area and positioning it for processing the orders.

Working Conditions:

Employee will work in an open warehouse the majority (98%) of the time and will be exposed to some or all of the following working conditions: Extreme Heat & Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes and Metallic Particles. Employee will be exposed to the hazards of working with heavy machinery. Employee is required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and safety boots and hearing protection.
