SUMMARY The District Manager I is responsible to ensure an exceptional shopping experience for our customers, to meet or exceed district sales expectations with increased profitability, and to ensure the operational integrity of the district through compliance with company standards. Directs Store Managers and their teams to achieve superior results by creating an inspiring, accountable, and rewarding environment. Strong follow-up skills, the ability to drive efficient performance through accountability, and leading with a sense of urgency are vital to this position. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Success: Through regular store visits, lead, teach and direct Store Managers in the planning, development, and execution of sales plans and objectives to ensure achievement of sales, margin and profitability. Our motto is to “drive more sales profitably.” The delivery of strong financial performance for the district that meets and exceeds plan (budget) expectations. The ability to provide a superior shopping experience for our customer that includes great service and a “good” store environment. Ensure labor results meet expectations. Monitor and ensure compliance with security and loss prevention policies and audit procedures and implement related programs. Manage compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Direct annual inventory process and maintain appropriate inventory levels to minimize loss and drive sales and profitability. 25% Customer Service and a Superior Shopping Experience: Lead all teams to provide excellent customer service. Ensure customer service programs are implemented and adhered to in order to achieve high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty. Understand the customer and demographic of each store in the district. Execute all marketing, merchandising and operating programs to drive sales and profits in all district stores. Ensure all stores meet operational expectations, including but not limited to in-stocks, recovery, store safety and facilities maintenance, and price change notifications. Implement methods to improve efficiencies by achieving high levels of performance. Superior and consistent store conditions. 25% Team Development and Performance: Provide leadership and development for Store Managers and teams by communicating career opportunities, providing regular performance feedback, conducting annual performance reviews of managers, and ensuring completion of required training. Establish and foster positive business relationships with all team members. Coach, develop, motivate and reward Store Managers and their teams as appropriate to maximize sales and profit. Instill a sense of urgency throughout the operation. Recruit, network, interview, hire, train, evaluate, coach/counsel, and resolve conflicts and complaints. Retention and promotion of team members demonstrating strong personal leadership and a drive for results. 25% Professional Leadership: Sees possibilities and stays in pursuit of continuous improvement. Maintains a disciplined eye for detail that reflects how each store is presented each day. Builds and maintains positive relationships with customers, suppliers and other JOANN Team Members. Protects and is an ambassador for the JOANN brand. Holds self and those reporting to them accountable for superior performance and results in all that they do. 25% WORKING CONDITIONS Extensive travel, including driving, which will normally be more than 70% of the time. Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. SKILLS / COMPETENCIES Proficient in the use of computers, including: MS Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), POS and Inventory Management Systems. Demonstrate a “customer first” service focus. Possess strong interpersonal skills/proficient written and verbal communication EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Education Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent.
