Job Details

Responsibilities:

• Analyze, review, and interpret commercial insurance policies to identify and/or resolve coverage issues.
• Manage outside counsel and handle bad faith lawsuits and declaratory judgment actions naming the Company as a party.
• Assist with providing responses to discovery on behalf of the Company and issuing legal holds.
• Assist and provide advice to claims staff on the proper handling of coverage and liability issues for a specific set of states.
• Retain coverage attorneys as needed to handle files pursuing coverage defenses alongside open claims or to seek coverage opinions on open claims.
• Respond to Department of Insurance and consumer complaints for a specific set of states.
• Assist with the reporting of bad faith allegations to E&O carrier on behalf of the Company.
• Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to personnel in the claims department.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, company information and policies.
• Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

• A four-year degree from an accredited institution.
• Law degree (J.D.) from an accredited institution and a bar license in any state (or willingness to obtain bar license).
• Strong background in handling multi-line commercial coverage claim files may be considered in lieu of a JD.
• Five years claims experience with a focus on coverage and/or litigated claims.
• Knowledge of and adherence to state laws and regulations governing the handling of claims.
• Experience interpreting coverage for commercial policies.
• Experience performing legal research.
• Knowledge of general liability insurance required.
• Knowledge of multiple lines of commercial insurance preferred.
• Excellent time management and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
