A bit about us:

A growing multifamily real estate company is seeking a Property Accountant/Bookkeeper. The Property Accountant/Bookkeeper is to manage the accounting and financial functions of a portfolio of multi-family properties. The position is responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly accounting, and will interface with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Regional Managers, and Property Managers. Individuals in this role must possess strong interpersonal skills, with a drive to succeed.

The ideal Property Accountant/Bookkeeper is someone with an understanding of property accounting within multifamily and/or the real estate industry. The Property Accountant has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with some knowledge of real estate or if the ideal Property Accountant does not have a degree but a strong understanding of the property accounting industry, that will be strongly considered! Job Details

Monthly monitoring and accounting for all transactions and final preparation of financial statements for specifically assigned managed properties.

Responsibilities:
  • Reversals
  • Cash Management
  • Completes month-end process, including balancing AR and AP
  • Completes monthly bank reconciliation
  • Requests for Funds, when necessary
  • Review, investigate and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries
  • Process Accounts Payable for a portfolio of properties
  • Process Vendor payables
  • Monitoring cash collections
  • Review of all invoices and check requests to insure account codes have been properly assigned
  • Setting up new vendors
  • Ensuring vendor insurance is up-to-date prior to release of payments
  • Ensures timely payment of all Mortgage Payments, Interest Payments, Property Tax Payments, and Utility Payments, including implementation of tickler files designating payment due dates to avoid late penalties and fees.
  • Insures timely payment of Property Management and Asset Management Fees
  • Process owner distributions as directed by Asset Manager
  • Coordinate preliminary financial statement review with Regional Manager, on-site management personnel, and Controller.
  • Publish final monthly financials by the 10th of each month for prior month activity.
  • Trains or assists with training the on-site staff with accounting functions
  • Assist in establishing and implementing written policies and procedures that reflect financial goals and objectives of the properties as they relate to month end close.
  • Supports and assists the Controller in planning, directing and coordinating day to day activities associated with all accounting functions, to include, but not limited to, setting up and maintaining files and computer systems, assist in preparation of budgets and financials for new takeovers and existing portfolio, entity and accounting setup, project accounting, project administration, project close-out and coordination as needed.
  • Strives to improve accounting processes by making recommendations to Vice President, and Controller during monthly meetings
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent information.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years’ of multi-family property accounting
  • Proven experience managing bookkeeping for multiple properties
  • Knowledge and experience of Onesite/Real-page systems preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of LIHTC property accounting preferred
  • MS Excel skills
