Data Engineer (Mastery), Distribution Analytics
Full-Time, Springfield, MA/ Boston, MA

You’re also committed to data integrity, are highly analytical, and can work on multiple projects at once. You’ll use your skills to develop, monitor, and manage data systems across our platform. Additionally, you will act as a mentor to junior team members and coach them on best practices and engineering standards. The Team
The Distribution Analytics Team is part of the Distribution Technology and Data Sciences organization at MassMutual. We support the leadership of our Affiliated Distribution and Strategic Distribution channels with analytics work products so they can operate their businesses and serve customers effectively. This new position will support our growing Wealth Management business and provide leadership on developing and delivering reporting packages and dashboards. This is a critical role that has significant visibility with leadership in the business. It is also a role that works directly with our agile delivery teams in Springfield, Boston, Romania, and India.

The Impact:
Design, build and maintain complex ELT jobs that deliver business value
Translate high-level business requirements into technical specs
Ingest data from disparate sources into the data lake and data warehouse
Cleanse and enrich data and apply adequate data quality controls
Provide insight and direction to guide the future development of MassMutual’s data platform
Develop re-usable tools to help streamline the delivery of new projects
Collaborate closely with other developers and provide mentorship
Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, processes and reference architectures
Work in an Agile development environment, attending daily stand-up meetings and delivering incremental improvements
Working on a range of projects including batch pipelines, data modeling, and data mart solutions you’ll be part of collaborative project teams working to implement robust data collection and processing pipelines to meet specific business need.
The Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related field
8 years of experience with data analytics and warehousing
7 years of SQL and query optimization experience
7 years ELT methodologies and tools use
7 years of experience developing with Python
5 years Experience working in a cloud environment (e.g. AWS)
The Ideal Qualifications
Master’s degree in computer science or engineering or a related field
Advanced Data Processing: Experience using data processing technologies such as Apache Spark or Kafka
Workflow: Good knowledge of orchestration and scheduling tools (e.g. Apache Airflow)
Reporting: Experience with data reporting (e.g. MicroStrategy, Tableau, Looker) and data cataloging tools (e.g. Alation)
Troubleshooting: Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis to determine and remediate potential issues
Communication: Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational and analytical skills
Able to work independently and to provide leadership to small teams of developers
