What are the responsibilities and job description for the Acoustics Engineer position at Joby Aviation?
Joby Overview
Located in Northern California, the Joby Aviation team is steadily working toward our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine an air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly and quickly carries you over the traffic congestion below, giving you back the time that otherwise would have spent sitting in traffic. Since 2009, our team has been making this dream a reality, designing and flight testing a prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration and preparing for commercialization with launch targeted in select markets for 2024.Overview
You will be responsible for improving the accuracy of acoustics computations for our cutting edge VTOL Aircraft. This will involve high fidelity computational fluid dynamics, computational aeroacoustics, and close integration with other disciplines. The engineer is expected to have a strong fundamental understanding of aerodynamics, acoustics, and aircraft performance. This role will allow you to interface with teams gathering experimental acoustics, flight test, and controls with the goal of improving our acoustics using computations, component testing, and flight test.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with flight physics engineers to validate high fidelity acoustics predictions with testdata
- Provide insight into full aircraft acoustics analysis
- Develop trajectories and control methods to reduce ground acoustics
Required
Pursuant to various local, state, and federal regulations, you must show proof of your full COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your start date. Exemption requests are available for bona fide religious and medical circumstances.
- M.S. or Phd in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline
- Experience with modern FW-H acoustics solvers
- Experience with modern CFD Solvers such as Overflow, Helios, and STAR-CCM
- Experience with Rotorcraft or UAV Aerodynamics and Controls
- Strong technical written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in groups and independently
