What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse Supervisor position at John Crane?
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of warehouse activities including receiving raw materials and/or finished goods and maintaining inventory and associated records. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems. Leads a team of hourly-wage members.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Issuing parts to Work Orders
- Satisfying internal shipping requirements (Outside Vendors, etc.)
- Ensuring accuracy of shipments and supporting documentation
- Inspection of goods received
- Receiving incoming material and routing to appropriate area or personnel
- Filling work orders from production, packaging assemblies and receiving into finished goods
- Ensuring inventory transactions are accurately logged
- Overseeing cycle counts and reconciliation activities
- Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department activities
- Developing and maintaining departmental work instructions for all tasks
- Establishing or updating work procedures to meet warehouse demands as dictated by production schedules and work flow
- Interpreting company policies to workers and enforcing safety regulations
- Recommending measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performance
- Continuously improve warehouse operations to meet the needs of the company
- Collaborating with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments and serving internal customers

The Individual
- Associates degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Three years of warehousing and material control experience in a manufacturing environment
- One year of supervisory experience
- Familiarity with LEAN and Six Sigma applications
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blue prints and drawings
- Ability to make calculations such as discounts, freight estimates, dimensional weight, invoices, and percentages
- Knowledge of Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor
