Position Summary:

Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Internet Strategy and Web Services team serve as a central strategic leader in the exploration, development, execution, and analysis of a digital strategy that connects the people of the world to the people of the organization. Serving all aspects of the three-part mission of research, education and patient care, the team leads the creation and execution of a comprehensive online strategy including content creation and distribution, user-centered design and development, Internet marketing and social engagement, and data-driven performance analysis. The Johns Hopkins Medicine search function is responsible for traffic to, sustaining the site as the 3rd most visited academic medical center.

The Online Search Marketing Manager reports to the Consumer Engagement Internet Marketing Manager and works closely with the senior leadership team to develop search-marketing strategies to meet both organic and paid needs for the enterprise, inclusive of the Johns Hopkins Health System, School of Medicine and all of its divisions and departments. This position is responsible for the operations and management of the Online Search Marketing team members, and for the development and completion of the team’s performance indicators.

This role is responsible for development of the strategic roadmap and has autonomy to lead and direct cross-functionally, to enable teams to meet measurable objectives tied to organic and paid search strategies. This role is integral in building search engine marketing strategies for key lines of business, which bring revenue into the organization. This position leads campaign optimization to maximize return on investment, building out the infrastructure in key platforms, e.g. Conductor, Yext, including developing and testing new keywords, creative, and bidding strategies, and analyzing website data. They are responsible for identifying synergies between SEO and other digital marketing tactics. This position also leads research on new techniques and recommends to leadership direction the organization needs to move in, and keeps abreast of competitors to enhance SEM and SEO capabilities.


Requires a Bachelor's Degree preferably in Marketing or Communications. Equivalent experience and training, in digital communications, web marketing or social media, beyond the work experience requirement may be substituted on a 2:1 basis.

Work Experience:

7+ years’ experience in a dedicated SEO role. Demonstrated experience in leading strategy around complex search marketing efforts and to best balance strategy execution. 3 + years’ experience in managing PPC strategies. 1+ year in social media management or another management function
