What you will do
Under the general direction of the State Tax Manager, support state income and franchise tax audits, manage complex state tax notices, prepare and review state tax workpapers including apportionment and state modification documentation, other support including assistance with tax accounting analysis. Assist the Federal Tax Team on various projects in support of the federal tax return and tax accounting. Ensure compliance with tax laws and minimize the tax burden of the company.
How you will do it
Audit Support

Handle state tax audits on specific issues that require workpaper analysis and written explanations

Work with state tax auditors by providing responses to Information Requests and answering questions related to audit issues.

Review returns under audit to develop potential audit offset positions

Resolve complex state tax notices

Ensure that an audit binder with each year's returns is compiled and maintained each year
Compliance Support

Prepare and review apportionment, state modification workpapers, state credit schedules,
-
Reconcile apportionment from business units to financial system, work with shared service center and reconcile differences

Prepare various state and local credit and incentive compliance documents
-
Prepare, update, and organize information that support tax filings
-
Research and document various federal and state tax-related issues

Assist with state tax provision workpapers

Train and supervise interns who work on notices and prepare city tax returns

Monitor and reconcile state tax cash needs and state tax payable account on a regular basis
What we look for

Bachelor's degree in Accounting - CPA or CPA eligible a plus

Must have three years of progressive experience with large corporation state and or federal income tax compliance.

High competency level with various Microsoft software applications.

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Self-Starter - persistent follow up to resolve issues, reconcile workpapers

Supervisory experience - Ability to supervise interns and staff working on audits.

Ability to train new staff and interns on electronic files and process for preparing and reconciling apportionment and shared workpapers.

Leverage technology tools to implement Process efficiencies and quality improvements

CorpTax experience a plus
