Summary / objective of position:
The Johnson Asset Management Operations Associate will primarily be responsible for the operational activity related to institutional futures accounts, account reconciliation, and monitoring cash requests. Associate will primarily work with firm’s Operations, IT, and Third-Party vendors to ensure accuracy of data. Associate will assist Senior Account Administrator in quarterly reporting to consultants and databases and partner as a custodian liaison. Johnson Asset Management Operations Associate will be responsible to ensure reporting deadlines are completed and that policies and procedures are maintained, and that back-up coverage is trained.
Associate will also be responsible for special project work.
Essential functions of position:
Futures Activity – Calculate daily margin variances for futures accounts, provide cash movement instructions for futures accounts based on margin variance calculations, monitor futures activity between custodians and futures broker to avoid overdrafts and/or missed calls, balance accounts and reconcile differences. Work with futures trader to ensure collateral requirements are satisfied and provide end of day trade notifications to interested parties. Work with Institutional Account Administrator on new futures account set-up such as writing delivery instructions and set up of repeating wires.
Account Reconciliation - Daily, using firm’s reconciliation processes, review investment accounts out of balance. Reconcile differences by working with firm’s Trade Processing Group, Fixed Income Traders, and custodians. Responsible for understanding how fixed income transactions are processed in accounting system including: bond pricing, TIP and MBS factor adjustments and bond security setups. Ensure that corporate actions such as tender offers, exchanges are reflected in accounting system. On month end, provide month end position files to custodians. Reconcile income cash accounting and tax lots when necessary.
Monitor Cash Requests - Posting of daily cash flows such as contributions, withdrawals, and custodial bank fees to ensure cash is balanced. Review account overdraft notification from accounting system and from custodian. Verify accuracy of flows with custodian to ensure new funds are available for investing and that sales have settled for redemption requests. Maintain min cash restrictions in trading system.
Partner with Senior Account Administrator as the firm’s liaison to custodians other than the firm’s primary custodian Charles Schwab. Associate will work with firm’s primary reconciler, trader and third-party vendor in the new account set-up process to ensure back-office connections are complete. Partner with firm’s primary reconciler on any custodial conversions.
Assist in quarterly reporting such as populating databases or consultant reports with account activity or characteristics.
Preferred education and experience
- Four-year degree in Finance, Economics or related field
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, process oriented
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and client service
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to apply program logic and definitions in daily problem solving
- Willing to learn and navigate between multiple systems and platforms
- Business working knowledge of Excel and Word
- Willing to accept new responsibilities
- Responsible, motivated, self-starter independent thinker and works effectively with others in a professional manner
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Bloomberg. Bond Edge, SalesForce, and Advent a plus
