We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist with experience in in vivo pharmacology to join our Neuroscience Discovery research team in La Jolla, CA who will be devoted to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for CNS disorders. The primary responsibility of the candidate will be to support our discovery pipeline by running in vivo (and ex vivo) studies aimed at elucidation of in vivo target engagement for multiple projects and analyzing data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform in vivo surgeries and induce models of disease (examples may include; neuropathic- and inflammatory pain, inflammation, depression and more)
- Behavioral testing including von Frey Test, Hargreave’s Test, Hot Plate Test, Open Field Test
- In vivo dosing p.o., i.p. and s.c.
- Perfusions, tissue collection (blood, plasma & brain) & cryostat sectioning
- Immunohistochemistry, ELISAs or Western blots
- Maintains accurate and detailed record keeping and experimental data in a timely manner in electronic laboratory notebook
- Author and review and technical reports
- Completes regulatory and job training
- Presents scientific data at project-, group- and team meetings
- Works both independently and in a complex team environment
- Experimental work is an extremely important part of the role and the successful candidate will spend close to full time at the bench generating data
Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelors’ Degree required in neuroscience, experimental psychology, biology, pharmacology or physiology, or related field of study, with at least 2 years of relevant experience post degree is required
- Prior In vivo experience and skills including In vivo dosing, surgeries, behavioral testing, tissue collection, in neuroscience is required
- Experience with cryostat sectioning, and immunohistochemistry is preferred
- Prior experience with generating neuropathic- and inflammatory pain models and von Frey testing is highly preferred
- It is essential that the successful candidate is self-motivated, but also a strong team player, and can demonstrate a high level of productivity
- This position may require approximately 75% time performing bench science in the lab.
- Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interact well with peers and collaborators, and strong written and oral communication skills are vital to success in this role
- A strong desire to learn and stay self-motivated and driven to assist projects is a critical skill
- Prior experience in a drug discovery/industry setting is not required but is highly preferred
- This position is located in La Jolla, CA, and may require up to 10% travel.
