Primary Function:
The Project Safety Coordinator is responsible for jobsite safety and training.
Typical Duties:
- Primary contact for all Field Personnel with Safety and Risk function.
- Must be able to tactfully address noncompliance issues with management, gaining their participation without encouraging defensiveness.
- Deliver training in the field to reduce injuries and cost
- Accurately and thoroughly investigate all accidents in the field
- Conduct pre-job inspections
- Prepare daily field site safety evaluations
- Must have an excellent eye for potential safety hazards, with a proven track record of proactively addressing safety issues.
- Assist with site safety inspections.
- Assist with safety orientation.
- Assist with weekly site safety meetings and inspections including appropriate documentation.
- Assist with daily Pre-task talks.
- Guide field supervision in positive safety recognition.
- Attend site meetings as appropriate.
- Administer, establish and promote the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions.
- Recommend measures to reduce accidents and/or health hazards.
- Inspect facilities to detect or correct existing or potential hazards and initiate corrective action.
- Investigate work-related incidents, accidents and injuries/illnesses, and conduct interviews of industrially injured/ill employees, their supervisors, and relevant witnesses.
- Teach and promote increased safety awareness by both addressing unsafe behavior(s) and unsafe conditions.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- 5 years Safety experience in Construction, Concrete Construction, or a related industry
- OSHA 30 Hour required
- OSHA 510 or 500 required
- College Degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Complete command of OSHA rules and regulations, including CalOSHA Vertical Standards
- Certified in First Aid and CPR
- CHST Certification preferred, sufficient experience in lieu of certification is acceptable
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) are needed
- Microsoft Suite Proficient
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus, but not required
- Valid California Driver’s License with clean driving record – will be required to travel to various jobsites throughout California. May involve occasional overnight stay
- Ability to occasionally lift boxes of materials weighing up to 40 LBS
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces in various climatic conditions
- Live within a reasonable commuting distance to the San Diego metropolitan area
