Summary/Purpose
Management of Logistics functions for all JTEKT North American group companies.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
• Manage Logistics supply chain.
• Maintain KPI and drive improvement using data analytics tools.
• Annualized cost improvement activity.
• Freight Analytics.
• Freight, Audit, and Pay activity (manage Third Party – Transportation Insight).
• Freight allocation processes.
• Manage cross dock milkrun activity.
• Maintain carrier base for required routing solutions.
• Control Tower activity for all plant inquiries.
• Logistics / special project studies
• Freight Carrier Matrix inside Oracle.
• Network Optimization - cost of “warehouse” and “logistics” in North America.
• Support PC teams for optimized logistics, stores, and flows.
• Develop logistics strategy to satisfy customers, shareholders, and team members.
• Logistics matters relating to Trade (import/export).
• Observe performance, analyze cause & effect, and take appropriate action.
• Develop and be accountable to operating plan and financial commitments.
• Develop operation tolls (TMS, I-Supplier, tracking tools).
• Communicate operating plan targets, action plans, and status on a regular basis.
• Promote continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance through Kaizen and leading positive change.
• Support staff or team members by providing training, instruction, and leadership with regards to their personal growth and job performance.
• Support JTEKT initiatives for synergistic systems that will benefit entire group companies.
• Risk awareness and risk management (port strikes, rail, weather, etc.).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position is responsible for supervising a department of three exempt employees in accordance with policies and procedures.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge operating systems such as Oracle.
• Knowledge logistics tools such as TMS.
• Knowledge logistics freight, audit, and pay tools.
• Knowledge 8 steps of problem solving.
• Knowledge and experience for all matter of routing solutions (charter, expedites, Milkruns, TL, LTL, special equipment, freight claims, cross border, etc.).
• Knowledge of Trade matters relating to Logistics and international movement.
• Knowledge or experience for Distribution Center operations.
• Leadership skills with ability to motivate cross-functional or cross-facility groups.
• Positive attitude, highly motivated, and high energy level.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to promote a team environment.
• Solid problem solving skills using a variety of statistical and root cause tools.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Direct experience with Lean Production concepts and tools (such as Toyota Production Systems).
• Excellent organizational skills that promote efficiency and leadership
• Budget preparation and control experience
• Ability to correct negative behavior fairly and consistently
• Flexible working hours, overtime and travel required
• Knowledge and experience in logistics, material management, inventory control systems, and manufacturing operations
• High-volume manufacturing experience with die casting, machining, and assembly operations
• Tier-1 automotive industry experience
Education and Experience:
• Bachelors or advanced degree in Logistics or related field and/or 15 years job-related experience.
• 10 or more years of related functional management and direct supervisory experience.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
• Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
• The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
• Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 20-35% of time.
