As a member of the Nursing Leadership team, the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) works under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to create an environment in which nurses are able to perform their jobs effectively. The ACNO provides oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating standards of clinical practice, quality, education, and clinical operations. The ACNO is responsible for ensuring that patient services are in compliance with nursing care standards as well as state and federal regulations. The ACNO is also involved in developing and revising nursing policies and procedures and assists the CNO with nurse recruitment, retention, education and quality assurance.

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required
- Master’s Degree or enrollment in master’s degree, preferred
- RN License in the State of Florida Clear / Active
- BLS Certification - American Heart Association for Health Care Provider
- Two (2) year of Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) experience in an Hospital / Acute Care setting required
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including five years in a leadership/management capacity
- Work experience in an acute care setting is required
- Enhanced management and communication skills
- Ability to establish professional relationships with staff, physicians, and patients and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities, as well as excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and remain calm in challenging situations.
- Must understand key business management and financial planning principles

- Direct clinical and administrative operations; oversee development and implementation of plans, and operation of the inpatient units.
- Provide oversight and direction to assure nurses provide safe, quality, evidenced-based care.
- Assist in reviewing and making recommendations on policy issues regarding clinical practice with appropriate disciplines within the organization.
- Provide administrative direction to Nursing Leadership within areas of responsibility including supporting shared governance, priority-setting, decision-making, and professional development.
- Assure effective communication and coordination of initiatives among various councils.
- Direct the preparation of budgets for assigned areas; ensure proper allocation of financial resources; monitor department budgets and daily staffing.
- Lead change for the development of new practices, nursing units, care delivery.
- Direct personnel functions related to areas of responsibility including, but not limited to hiring and performance management. Evaluate and initiate corrective action regarding operational compliance with licensure, accreditation, and regulatory standards. Resolve problems involving grievances and discipline; advise and guide the Nursing Leadership team in administrative and personnel matters.
- Interview, screen, and recommend the hiring of prospective nursing personnel as needed; participate in performance evaluations of personnel.
- Serve as role model and resource for professional colleagues. Participate in leadership activities such as committees, professional organizations, publishing, and teaching.
- Remain current with local trends and changes in nursing professional/practice in health environment. Ensure that department/staff meet the Joint Commission, ACHA, and other regulatory/licensure requirements.
- Investigate complaints regarding patient care and nursing personnel in nursing services.
- Interpret and communicate nursing and organizational philosophy and objectives, department policies and procedures and apply recognized standards of nursing practice; conduct regular conferences with Nursing Leadership to discuss policies and procedures and evaluate personnel and unit needs.
- Participate in strategic planning for the organization and for nursing services; participate in formulating policy, procedures, and standards for the organization and nursing services.
- Evaluate the quality of nursing care and the operation and condition of units; keep informed of the condition of patients' and of unusual treatments, medications, or occurrences.
- Assist in coordinating nursing services with nursing education programs; monitor and evaluate the work assigned to staff, and complete performance appraisals.
- Represent the Chief Nursing Officer regarding nursing issues as directed. Provide assistance with other projects as delegated by the Chief Nursing Officer.
