K-Bin has an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Agent at our Freeport, TX location!
Primary Function:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, packaging materials, equipment, spare parts and services as specified for the compounding at the Freeport, Texas facility in an economical and efficient manner.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This position may require any of the following functions:
- Identify the goods and services required of the organization
- Assess and select suppliers; develop supplier business relationship to obtain best sourcing, pricing and delivery
- Monitor supplier performance
- Review and analyze purchase requisitions for accuracy, specifications, etc.; resolves requisition issues with requestor
- Convert purchase requisitions to purchase orders
- Prepare bid specifications, issues bid requests, reviews quotes
- Negotiate contract prices, payment terms, delivery schedules / commitment dates, etc. ; award contract to chosen provider
- Monitor the progress of the orders and confirm orders are delivered on time, within specification and integrated into production schedule
- Resolve issues related to purchases including receipt, quality, invoicing, returns, etc.; communicate issues to requestor
- Generates vendor complaints as required
- Perform on-demand purchasing during weekends, holidays, off-business hours as need to meet the demands of production, incidents, etc.
- Collaborates with accounting and receiving to ensure issues are captured and credited appropriately
- Monitor inventory and maintain / update ERP system; maintains product master files to specified standards, as well as master supplier list
- Maintain market awareness, forecast trends and collaborate with other departments to meet production schedules
- Practice continuous improvement by investigating creative solutions, best practices, benchmark data, etc.
- Maintain high standards of compliance for suppliers, vendor qualifications and audits (ISO, J-SOX, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related technical field and five (5) years’ experience in Supply Chain Management in the Chemical Manufacturing Industry is required. Additional years’ experience will be considered in lieu of degree requirement. CPIM Certification is highly preferred.
Job Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Good Purchasing Practices and the Supply Chain Management Process
- Ability to negotiate prices, contracts, etc.
- Ability to develop and maintain vendor/supplier relations
- Previous experience utilizing ERP software; Great Plains experience is a plus
- Knowledge of and commitment to safe working practices, programs, regulations, etc.
- Knowledge of and commitment to environmental practices, programs, regulations, etc.
- Microsoft applications
- Valid, current driver’s license
- Availability for calls and emails outside of standard M-F schedule
Physical Requirements:
Candidate must be able to:
- Lift up-to 10 pounds regularly and 20 pounds occasionally
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally bend, stoop, and reach
- Visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal
- Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech
- Ability to convey information orally
