Shift Details: Full-time, 1.0 FTE, Evening Shift
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Complete a Kadlec approved K9 handler academy within 3 months of hire, and maintain Kadlec recognized K9 handler certification.
- Certifications in AVADE (Levels I, II, & III), OC/Pepper Spray, Baton, CEW/Taser, Handcuffing, CPR/AED and Basic Healthcare Security Training Course will be completed within the first 90 days after hire as part of the standard onboarding process.
- 3 years experience in Law Enforcement/Security/Military/Corrections experience, or related experience in healthcare setting
Preferred Qualification:
- Associate's Degree in Law enforcement, criminal justice, or other related field or equivalent education/experience
- K9 Handler training and experience
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrate and sustain compliance with Kadlec Caregiver Expectations Standard of Excellence and Code of Conduct.
- Understands, embraces, and instills Kadlec’s Mission, Vision and Values.
- Must be willing to agree to a three year term of being a K-9 handler due to the cost of training, and equipment of the handler.
- Follows and maintains a working knowledge of current department policies, and standard operating procedures. Enforces Kadlec and facility policies such as identification badging, access, loitering, smoking, parking, forbidden articles, weapons, etc.
- Patrols assigned area including hospital units, clinics, Providence property and adjacent areas on foot or in a vehicle to deter criminal activity, to detect unauthorized activity and to identify needs for assistance. Monitors radio broadcasts other officers to provide assistance as needed. Identifies, reports, and responds to suspicious activities.
- Accurately completes reports including case/incident reports, accident reports, property slips and others documents in accordance with Security Services policies.
- Investigates thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies and detains suspicious individuals when authorized; participates in subsequent court proceedings as required.
- Maintains accountability for valuables/property and forms of evidence.
- Uses security equipment to detect inappropriate or illegal behaviors. Promptly reports any system malfunctions.
- Liaisons with County Medical Examiners, Coroners and Funeral Homes authorizing the release of deceased and their belongings in accordance with regulations and organizational policies.
- Liaisons with law enforcement, fire department, emergency medical services, public relations and other Kadlec stakeholders to ensure appropriate assistance is provided and threats are identified and appropriately communicated.
- Provides prompt and effective response to panic buttons and alarms. Responds to emergency Codes per existing procedures.
- Responds to requests to address and de-escalate difficult or combative individuals; physically detains, restrains, or disarms individuals as necessary. Escorts unruly individuals off premises. Assists with the handling of high security risk patients.
- Assist during specific emergencies, including the establishment of a Hospital Command Center as needed.
- Attends training sessions and maintains required department certifications. Skilled in the use of security and protective equipment including Expandable Baton, OC/Pepper Spray, Two-Way Radios, Handcuffs, Cameras, Restraint Devices, etc.
- Completes assigned inspections of safety equipment and promptly reports and/or corrects any fire or safety hazards.
- Reports for duty on time and maintains post assignments at times specified.
- Accepts direction from the Nursing Service Supervisor in the absence of the Lead Security Officer or Security Supervisor.
- Follows Access Control policies and procedures including maintaining visitor documentation. Conducts safety searches of patient, visitors, and belongings consistent with facility search and seizure policies.
- Maintains and secures confidentiality of records and medical center information. Complies with HIPAA requirements.
- Reports to work during emergencies and during inclement weather conditions since security personnel are considered essential staff. Emergency call back may be required and subject to mandatory overtime when required when operationally needed. Directs actions of fellow caregivers during responses to aggressive patients, restraint application and other potentially dangerous situations.
- Serves as a participant on committees or attends meetings where safety expertise is required.
- Assigned additional responsibility of a functional area within the security department such as ensuring vehicles are properly maintained, managing lost and found, reviewing security reports and mentoring new security officers.
- Assists with hazard remediation as appropriate commensurate with skills and certifications.
- Participates in Hospital Incident Command (HICS).
- Acts as preceptor or mentor to others. Service as primary liaison with law enforcement and investigates complex incidents as requested.
- Additional requirements for the K9 Security Officer:
- As a team, the officer and K9 tours and inspects facility and grounds frequently to assist in maintaining a safer and more secure environment.
- Provides for and ensures the safety and comfort of the canine – provides appropriate rest periods, water, and cooling, etc. while on assigned shifts.
- Maintains the working proficiency and training of their canine and is held accountable for the proper use of the dog. Participates in all formal training and socialization activities. Continues training and socialization of the canine off-shift.
- Regards the canine as a member of the family unit and is responsible 24/7 for the canine. Provides for ensures safe and friendly interactions with the family unit.
- Participates in marketing and public events with the canine to support and promote awareness and acceptance of the K-9 Team and program
- Exposes, introduces and manages the canine in a variety of environments and situations within the hospital. Regularly interacts and is approachable by patients, visitors and staff.
- Performs daily and regular grooming activities of their canine. Provides active play and work time for the canine on a daily basis.
- Schedules and ensures the canine receives a yearly examination by the department selected licensed veterinarian. Ensures the canine is treated immediately for any sickness or injury.
- Must be able to house, groom, feed, and train a canine.
