Job description
Kahana Feld is seeking an experienced full time Legal Assistant who is organized, detail oriented, and dependable. This position requires a highly motivated professional, capable of functioning in a fast-paced, challenging legal environment.
Applicant must be diligent, intelligent, possess strong attention to detail, and have a passion for the legal field. Experience as a legal assistant, preferably in insurance defense, a plus. The applicant must also have the ability to anticipate needs, take initiative and problem solve. Knowledge, or the ability to learn, calendaring, state court rules, federal rules, and civil procedure is necessary. Applicant must possess excellent communication and proof-reading skills.
Qualifications
· Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to type 60-65 wpm and must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
· 3 years’ legal assistant experience in insurance defense with some of that experience related to handling general liability or construction defect litigation preferred
· Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a team environment with attorneys, paralegals and other legal assistants
· Ability to work in a paperless environment and embrace paperless technologies
· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, clients, and other employees of the firm
· Organized, self- motivated, with ability to work independently with a great attitude
· Proficient with State and Federal Court rules and e-filing procedures
· Familiarity with California Code of Civil Procedure rules and requirements relating to all stages of litigation
Responsibilities
· The Litigation Legal Assistant is responsible for supporting a team of attorneys litigating construction defect and general liability cases
· Support 3 attorneys with a case load of 30-35 cases
· Coordination/scheduling of meetings, court hearings, appointments, and depositions
· Experience with electronic court filings preferred
· Maintain calendar for trial and discovery deadlines and daily docket to ensure that deadlines are met
· Create, organize and maintain client files, follow up on pending matters
· Maintain physical and electronic client, research and administrative files utilizing NetDocs
· Proofread all documents and check for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammatical errors
· Manage incoming and outgoing mail and e-mail
· Prepare documents and packages for mail, messenger, and overnight delivery; ensure that all attachments, exhibits and enclosures are intact

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
