Summary:
The Career Connect team seeks individuals with industry expertise and/or teaching/training experience in the career fields of residential building, electrical wiring, HVAC service/installation, and/or plumbing. The individual selected for this role will join a team of other instructors/industry experts from a variety of careers to develop curriculum aligned to industry recognized credentials, plan recruitment activities, deepen partnerships with industry partners and post-secondary education institutions, and continue to research and implement world-class components for career and technical education. Previous teaching and/or training experience not required.
These instructors/industry experts will work with other Career Connect staff, local school districts, and community members to successfully plan for the opening of a new career and technical education facility set to start classes in August 2025. Instructors/industry experts will deepen their understanding of effective instruction through consistent and focused professional learning. After the facility opens, instructors/industry experts will transition to full-time career and technical education teachers in the facility.
The facility: The Career Connect Campus will be a world-class career preparedness facility accessible for high school students and the broader community. With curriculum rooted in real-world skills and industry-recognized credentials, this facility will offer students a bridge to viable, successful, and local careers. The student learning experience will mimic state-of-the-art work environments, with a focus on putting learners in an industry-based culture and climate.
Job Responsibilities for Instructors/Industry Experts prior to Campus opening:
- Assist with development of a Career Pathway Planning tool for graduating students
- Assist 21st Century Skills project team with development of curriculum and credential
- Collaborate with Career Connect team and industry partners to identify and procure industry specific equipment
- Develop cross-program projects that expose students to different career pathways
- Assist with recruitment activities, summer camps, and promotional campaigns
- Explore and expand work-based learning activities in collaboration with work-based learning team
- Deepen understanding of project-based learning and competency-based grading. Assist instructional team with planned building-wide implementation
- Develop lessons and units of instruction that utilize the Campus as a learning tool
Job Responsibilities for Instructors/Industry Experts after Campus opening:
- Support KRESA anti-bias, anti-racism principles, prioritizing equitable opportunity, program representation and support for all students
- Participate in instructional coaching program with a focus on continuous improvement
- Develop and deliver career and technical education curriculum based on key learning objectives, utilizing best practices, and various technologies to deliver instruction
- Provide instruction that draws upon real life experiences, outside experts, and other industry resources whenever possible
- Prepare students for industry-recognized credential assessments
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and welcoming for all students
- Develop assessments which track effectiveness of teaching and learning and evaluate student growth
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local industry professionals, in addition to participating in advisory committee meetings each year
- Complete required documentation as required by the MDE Office of Career and Technical Education
- Effectively communicate with students, parent/guardians, KRESA CTE staff, school counselors and other stakeholders
- Regular and consistent attendance

Education and/or Experience:
- Must qualify for Annual Career Authorization which includes having two years (4,000 hours) of current, industry-related experience in the last ten years;
OR
- Must hold State Secondary Provisional Certification with the CIP code endorsement appropriate to CTE courses in the pathways listed above.
Certificates, License, Registration:
Valid Driver’s License required.

School environment where there may be physical discomfort due to temperature, dust or the like, depending on location of CTE program (i.e., computer lab vs. auto shop). Noise level in this environment may be moderate to loud. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
