SUMMARY:
The job responsibilities for this position include all aspects of the preparation of hollow metal/stainless steel doors and panels including door hardware preps (locks, hinges, strikes, closers, etc.), door lite preparation (cutting opening, kit installation, glazing, etc.), installing reinforcements, custom sizing of doors, and metal work. More specifically, the job activities include interpretation of shop orders, shop drawings and hardware templates to prep door/panel components to specifications. The prepping process includes arc welding, cutting, grinding/polishing, cleaning of metal, touch-up spray painting, cutting and installing glass and packaging. Other activities include: fork lift operation, raw material inventory management and other material handling activities. Maintain 5-S standards and housekeeping of Door Shop area along with tools and workbenches. Also expected to actively support and participate in Continuous Improvements activities by applying Lean Manufacturing tools to daily activities, such as warehouse, inventory management and other material handling activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Including but not limited to:
- Identifying and obtaining pertinent information from shop orders, shop drawings and hardware templates regarding hardware and manufacturing specifications.
- Set-up and operation of various bench and hand power tools including bench and hand grinders, cut-off saws, band saw and plasma cutting torch.
- Set-up and operation of and arc welding equipment in prepping and modifying metal doors/panels and their components and other light gage sheet metal. Cuts door down in size with power hand saw and cuts preps with other power tools.
- Working with variety of materials including: sheet metal, body putty, sanding/grinding and spray painting of metal doors sheet steel and caulks and glass.
- Working safely and maintaining consistent quality of work at efficient productivity rates. Safe operation of fork lifts for movement of materials.
- Maintain accurate paper work and record keeping for production history and for inventory control.
- Accurately pulling and marking doors required for job.
- Welds in flat, horizontal and possibly vertical positions. Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
- Grinds welds and body putty repairs flush and smooth, with proper feathering of affected area to flat surfaces. Clean and prep doors for prime paint touch-up, if applicable by sanding marks and damage and removing weld spatter and grinding dust.
- Effectively communicating with supervisor/lead person, co-workers, office personnel and internal customers. Actively participate in door and process design and improvement activities.
- Assisting in other operations, as needed, including warehouse support, special project installations and other production area support.
