The Department of Pathology is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to conduct advanced experimental research on the role of Leucine-rich Repeat Kinase 2(LRRK2) in innate immunity. To elucidate how LRRK2-mediated innate immune signaling pathways contribute to host defense and LRRK2-associated diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, autoinflammatory disease and inflammatory bowel disease. Tasks include design, performance, and evaluation of experimental procedures with full responsibility for efficient use of resources while obtaining high-quality results in each individual study. Tasks also include training of assigned lab personnel, including students, postdocs and visiting scholars.. This position is 100% time.

 

Duties to include:

 

  • Animal Work-Routine mouse breeding, colony management, genotyping, etc.
  • Cell Culture-Routine sterile tissue culture of primary cells or cell lines, flow cytometric analysis.
  • Biochemistry-Immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, ELISA, preparing samples for proteomics/metabolomics.
  • Molecular biology-DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and real-time PCR, QPCR analysis, etc.
  • Immunohistochemistry and Immunofloerescence staining.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in biomedical science
  • At least 2 years of post-PhD experience in molecular biology or Immunology
  • Experience with animal models of disease
  • Experience molecular cloning
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Documented academic productivity as evidenced by serving as a primary or contributing author in peer reviewed academic/research publications.
  • Demonstration of strong ability to independently design, optimize and perform experiments, establishing experimental protocols to solve scientific questions.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with sterile tissue culture is highly desired
  • Experience with DNA, RNA, and protein analysis is highly desired
  • Experience with immunostaining and flow cytometry is highly desired
  • Experience with research in signaling transduction
