Description

This position develops and optimization, statistical, and simulation models to support resource management and process improvement on an international scale across the KCS US and Mexico railroad networks. It is responsible for data acquisition, data analysis, forecasting, process mapping, and process analysis using various analytical and statistical tools. The position is expected to independently calibrate, produce, and update various models and analyses to support ongoing resource management and process improvement activities. This position will also be expected to lead and advise on various analytic research projects involving optimization and mathematical or statistical modeling.

 

Accountabilities

  • Manages the resource modeling and simulation efforts internationally across the KCS US and Mexico railroad networks.
  • Manages the creation and presentation of KCS' process and simulation models supporting the resource planning and process improvement efforts.
  • Develops simulation models for key resources (including trains, locomotives and crews based on statistical analysis and process mapping.
  • Identifies and presents opportunities derived from modeling activities.
  • Independently identifies and obtains data needed for modeling and analytical efforts.
  • Develops statistical models to facilitate data based decision-making.
  • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

 

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

  • Master degree in Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Business or related quantitative discipline
  • Two (2) years railroad operations experience
  • Two (2) years experience with the use of statistics to address business opportunities
  • Two (2) years experience with the application of operations research to create mathematical models to address business opportunities
  • Experience with simulation software (Arena, Simio, etc)
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience with statistical software packages (Python & R preferred, Minitab, SAS, etc)
  • Bilingual in Spanish

 

Working Conditions

  • This position has a regular full time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.
  • This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.
