Located just north of Santa Barbara on the scenic Central Coast of California, KARL STORZ Imaging in Goleta designs and manufactures high tech medical imaging equipment including video cameras and image enhancing devices. We employ technical staff with expertise in electronics, optics, mechanical systems and software. Our lean manufacturing operations include an in-house machine shop which enables the complete on-site assembly of our products. 

Job Summary

We are looking for a Director of Manufacturing and Order Fulfillment to join our Operations team!  In this position, you will be responsible for managing, controlling, and directing the order processing, material planning, production planning, inventory control, manufacturing assembly, machine shop, shipping, and receiving functions ensuring effective and efficient use of facilities and staff. Through subordinate managers and supervisors, develop, implement, and maintain all systems and supporting policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise department mangers – manufacturing, machine shop, order fulfillment/customer support, production control, distribution.
  • Set overall direction and work assignments for groups.
  • Establish, communicate, and pursue objectives for the department to accomplish, consistent with the company’s goals.
  • Establish and roll out development/succession plans for employees.
  • Effectively conduct regularly scheduled team and individual meetings.
  • Responsible for key recommendations regarding employee hiring, firing, promotion, discipline, or any other change in status of the employee reporting to directly or indirectly to this position.
  • Ensure productivity goals for the team are understood and achieved.
  • Assess Team’s roles and responsibilities to ensure division of responsibilities and cross-coverage.
  • Develop and maintain productive and effective relationships with subordinates, peers, and superiors.
  • Administer employee disciplinary actions as the situation requires.
  • Produce and administer performance evaluations.
  • Identify and share training opportunities for staff to build and improve skills.
  • Ensure all required training of personnel is conducted in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensures all safety-related policies are followed.
  • Ensures compliance with FDA and ISO regulations for all functions within areas of responsibility.

 

  • Duties/Responsibilities
  • Direct the Master Scheduling and Production Planning functions in support of the Marketing forecast.
  • Direct the Manufacturing Assembly and Service departments as well as Machining Services.
  • Direct the Distribution Control functions:  Stockroom, Shipping and Receiving.
  • Oversee the manufacturing of products, ensuring production, performance, and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Strategize and collaborate long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, implementation of new & advanced technologies, and best practices.
  • Develop and provide strategic leadership that focuses on effective communication, problem solving and decision making to achieve overall goals and objective of the department(s) and organization.
  • Review and communicate production reports to ensure safety, quality, financial, and delivery goals and standards are met.
  • Ensure the development of new products from a production and material planning standpoint are effectively supported.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment, and compliance with federal and state regulations, through collaboration with environmental, health, and safety staff.
  • Work closely with Process Engineering and Quality Assurance to ensure the planning, implementation, and execution of all phases of operations in a manufacturing facility are completed per prescribed processes.
  • Developing plans for all aspects of production including equipment purchases, staffing needs, work schedules, and material requirements
  • Participate in and/or leads a variety of project teams.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Will spend part of his/her time as a member of continuous improvement teams undertaking projects and seeking ways to improve the quality of KSI’s products and services
  • Communicate with other STORZ facilities.
  • Participate in teams that include members from other STORZ organizations.
  • Monitoring the performance of all operations within the factory or plant to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies
  • Demonstrate a high standard of work ethics and professionalism to subordinates, peers, and superiors at all times.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function.
  • Organize departmental management structure and teams for optimal, efficient operations.
  • Works with chief financial officer to develop operating budget.
  • Supervises equipment purchase, maintenance, and layout.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of Materials Management/Manufacturing Assembly in an ERP environment.
  • APICS certification a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards (eg, U.S. FDA Quality System Regulation 21CFR Part 820, ISO13485, ISO9001)
  • Ability to set long-term goals and communicate them to others.
  • Ability to motivate and organize multiple efforts to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to lead change and manage ambiguity by not only providing a sense of direction but can also build ownership and alignment within their workgroups to implement change.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with many levels of employees of various disciplines within various departments and all other internal and external contacts.
  • Must be knowledgeable with MRP/ERP systems and methods, SAP experience a strong plus.
  • Must possess good computer skills; proficient  with Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Must possess good understanding of product lines and methodologies of planning and manufacturing.
  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the policies and practices used in the manufacturing environment.
  • College/University degree in relevant field required - Engineering (preferred), Business Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing management role.
  • 10 years’ experience in medical device industry required. Relevant experience in other regulated industries may be considered.
  • 8 years’ experience as a manager / supervisor of technical personnel.
