What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Programmer position at Kaspar Companies?
Primary Function:
The Lead CNC Programmer position is responsible managing a team of programmers that are taking drawing and models provide by the design team and writing programs to operate factory machinery to build prototypes and production parts within tolerances according to customer specification. In addition, they are responsible for more complicated machine operations such as mill turn centers.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- First piece prove run and sign-off on all new programs
- Develop plan to cross train employees on equipment and basic programming with Mastercam
- Drive cross function projects with manufacturing, design, quality, and jig teams
- Lead and coach program reviews with team
- Work with quality to inspect work pieces for conformance to specifications
- Using Mastercam and other various software to program machinery efficiently
- Detect equipment malfunctions when out of tolerance and adjust machine to ensure quality of parts and reduce downtime
- Maintain organized program library
- Backdate current programs on machinery into PDM
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in the process.
- Utilize metal fabrication, machining, and other expertise to implement mistake proofing control methods to increase quality, productivity and reduce costs of manufacturing
- Work closely with manufacturing engineering to ensure new products are programmed to match agreed upon cycle times
- Participate in GEMBA walks and kaizen events
- Lead all LDM activities with Programming team
- All other duties assigned by management
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken formats
- Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to read in-depth drawings including GD&T
- Must have superb problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Must have high aptitude for mechanics
- Strong foundation in material science
- The ability to fabricate prototypes, iterate rapidly from concept to high volume production
- Capability to work closely with department supervision and production workers
Qualifications:
- 5 Years CNC machine set up and programming
- 8 years in machine shop environment
- Deep knowledge of Mastercam
- Proficient in drawing, symbology and terminology
- Lean Trained – certification a plus
- Metal working industry experience
- MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, etc...) proficiency required
- Must possess current and valid driving record with clear history for the past three years
Physical Requirements:
- Extended periods of sitting and/or walking (33% - 75% of time)
- Stooping, bending, twisting, leaning (10% - 25% of time)
- Lifting of up to 25 lbs. occasionally (0% - 33% of time)
Work Environment:
- Frequent work in a manufacturing environment where the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, hearing protection and safety shoes is mandatory
