SUMMARY

Perform scientific and engineering data analytical and statistical services in fields such as injury biomechanics, injury analysis, kinematics, or a related field to accomplish USAARL’s Injury Biomechanics mission. The contractor shall provide scientific analytical services (from data entry, quality assessment, to complex analysis) related to data acquisition (e.g., instrumentation, high speed video, medical images, or engineering and medical databases), data management, and data analysis according to approved protocols, policies, and/or plans to ensure quality, accuracy, and reproducibility of data/results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide scientific analytical services related to data acquisition (e.g., instrumentation, high speed video, medical images, or engineering and medical databases), data management, and data analysis according to approved protocols, policies, and/or plans to ensure quality, accuracy, future use, and reproducibility of data/results.
  • Provide scientific analytical services by applying the principles of statistics, numerical methods, signal processing, research, dynamics, kinematic motion analysis, and programming. Such application will require individual research, synthesis of research and mathematical literature, programming in MATLAB, modification and use of previously created MATLAB scripts, creation of batch jobs, data quality assessments, and handling large time series data sets. Additionally, documentation of analysis will be required within developed and modified scripts and codes along with scientific documentation such as papers, reports, and presentations.
  • Advise on use and analysis needs to a multi-disciplinary team including engineers, physicians, computer scientists, database developers, data entry clerks, data quality assessors, and other biomedical researchers.
  • Provide services related to the Injury Biomechanics RDT&E efforts, including the development of draft test plans and protocol documentation from literature reviews along with the collection and preparation of data for analysis and synthesis according to policy and procedures of the USAARL. All aspects of RDT&E are included, such as Human Subject Research, Research Not Involving Human Subjects (RNIHS), cadaveric studies, and Test and Evaluations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering related field such as electrical, biomedical, mechanical, biomechanics, physics, epidemiology, etc.
  • Must have a minimum 4 years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical.
  • Experience in laboratory procedures, testing and research activities.
  • Familiarity with the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) a plus.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, standards, and procedures within mechanics, dynamics, and mathematics as demonstrated through a degree and coursework in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field from an accredited program.
  • Experience in numerical methods programming, data acquisition, and use of MATLAB, including MATLAB specialty toolboxes such as work with images, signals, and statistics.
  • Experience in scientific data analysis, statistical methods, and relevant software packages, such as SPSS, SAS, R, Microsoft products, image reconstruction software, motion capture and kinematic analysis/modeling.
  • Must be able to read, understand and execute techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives at one time.
  • Experience with medical terminology and research.
  • Proven ability to exercise mature judgment – specifically in recognizing and respecting the confidential nature of corporate and personnel matters.

TRAVEL

May travel CONUS or OCONUS to conduct RDT&E, attend working groups meetings, training, workshops, conferences or other relevant meetings. Expectation of multiple data collections per year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lying down or to be or remain in a position or state of inactivity. Lift and carry 50 lbs. individually and as a part of a team lift and carry operation; use hand tools to assemble and disassemble equipment, instrumentation, and test devices; climb and descend equipment, test devices, military vehicles, steps, or ladders. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in an office and /or laboratory setting. Laboratory environment includes human testing, so exposure may include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, fumes, vapors, communicable diseases, etc. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.
