Not Benefits Eligible Variable (United States of America) 7630 Radiology-KHMC The Imaging Technologist provides the department with basic diagnostic x-ray skills in operating and performing the various tasks in preparing, executing, and completing procedures. This would include proper order review, basic radiologic skills, and patient care experience. License /Certification Required:CA Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license BLS Preferred:ARRT Licensure in a second modality Education Required:N/A Preferred:N/A Testing N/A Experience Required:N/A Preferred:N/A Knowledge/Skills/Abilities N/A Department Specific Requirements If assigned to Radiology Diagnostic Department: Fluoroscopy permit required within 6 months of hire/transfer. Essential Operates X-ray equipment according to procedure. Provides radiation protection for patient according to prescribed safety standards. Adjusts technical factors to accommodate the age, body habitus, disease process and condition of each patient. Verifies correct order on chart or provided physician order, referring questions to supervisor or physician before performing procedure. All documentation and data entry is complete and accurate, according to policy. Notifies physician if any modifications to exam ordered are required. Assists physician in administering contrast media, mixing contrast solutions according to procedures and assembling administration materials, if required. Uses department computers according to procedures. Knows Radiology Information System (RIS), properly charges exams, adds supplies if necessary. Modifies orders and cancels exams appropriately, including documenting reason in RIS. Keeps designated work area clean and orderly. Clean equipment and rooms; stock supplies and maintains area in a ready condition. Assists in administering first aid as necessary. Develops images using computed Radiography system (CR) or Digital Radiography (DR) with correct information and positioning markers on image. Prints CR or digital images using laser printer or CD burner as necessary. No complaints from physicians concerning image quality. Transfers patient to and from X-ray room; positions patient correctly for X-ray being taken as assigned. Thoroughly explains the procedure to the patient. Properly performs portable radiography, checking chart and seeking nursing assistance when necessary. Identifies patient and exam accuracy by verifying at least two patient identifiers and by checking for proper exam order. Notifies nursing upon modification, rescheduling, or canceling of an exam as necessary. Develops and maintains good working relationships with all members of hospital, medical staff, and community. Portrays department positively to all. Becomes familiar with and able to assist physicians in viewing images on the hospital PACs system. Addendum (essential for specific dept) IF ASSIGNED TO URGENT CARE/SEQUOIA PROMPT CARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR:Escorts patients to exam rooms. May take and record vital signs. Makes sure all paperwork is completed. Assists with patient flow. Enters appropriate information into medical record, adhering to medical record guidelines. May be required to obtain pre-certification for procedures. Assures correct coding for filling and forms are in proper place in record. Accurately enters vital signs into patient management computer system. Uses department computer systems to enter and obtain information/documentation. Answers telephone, refers calls, makes appointments, and provides appropriate information and referrals, as needed. Transports patients during the admission and discharge process using the appropriate mode as indicated based on the patient complaint or condition. Participates in the initial and ongoing assessment of the patient. Takes initial and serial vital signs as required. Properly attaches cardiac monitor and records rhythm strip as directed. Applies the SaO2 sensor as directed. Reports pertinent findings or changes in patient condition to licensed personnel. Additional Assists in specific areas of training for radiology technology students. Is a role model and provides a positive atmosphere for learning. Actively participates in Performance Improvement and quality assurance. Assists other members of the shift with patient assignments. Takes initiative in helping others within own unit as well as outside units, when workload permits. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care. Performs other duties as assigned.
