Proposal WriterPosition Summary:
KBR seeks an experienced Proposal Writer to join our National Security Solutions (NSS) Business Growth team. This position will play a crucial role in developing well-written, compelling, and compliant proposals in response to federal government requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for information (RFIs), and other procurement opportunities. The Proposal Writer will support and coordinate with various teams across our markets and capabilities, including technical and business growth subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand solutions, identify and document discriminators and innovations. The desired candidate will be capable of synthesizing, interpreting, and translating, with limited guidance, solicitation requirements, win themes, and subject matter expert inputs to develop compliant and compelling proposal content and narrative for various business growth documents. The content will include technical and management information, organization charts, resumes, references, past corporate performance documentation, and a variety of other documents required for federal government RFPs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Works on writing assignments varying in length and detail and meets writing deadlines established by proposal manager
- Manages multiple writing efforts simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines and maintaining a high level of attention to detail
- Analyzes and understands federal RFP requirements, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS)
- Collaborates with the proposal team to develop proposal outlines, compliance matrices, and response templates
- Interviews subject matter experts to obtain subject matter information and developing it into cohesive narrative from information gathered. Includes becoming familiar with the source, developing questions, conducting interview sessions while taking notes, and independently developing content into final narrative
- Identifies, decomposes, and responds to requirements for technical, management, resume, past performance, and other proposal requirements
- Collaborates with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to gather information and develop proposal content that meets federal customer needs and communicates the proposed solution's benefits, differentiators, and value proposition
- Writes, edits, and proofreads proposal content, ensuring clarity, compliance, and consistency with federal RFP requirements and evaluation criteria
- Incorporates technical information into well-structured and easily understandable proposal sections, including executive summaries, technical approaches, past performance, and management plans
- Resolves and incorporates comments from proposal reviews
- Supports data call responses, sources sought, Requests for Information (RFIs), and market research
- May lead the writing of proposal sections
- Collaborate with the proposal manager and graphic designer to integrate text and graphics for a cohesive and visually appealing proposal
- Ensure compliance with federal RFP requirements, including formatting, content structure, and page limitations
- Participate in post-submission activities, such as debriefs and lessons learned sessions, to improve future proposal efforts
- Supports the development of boilerplate and model content for business growth documents and proposal sections
Basic Qualifications and Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Technical Writing, or related field.
- 2 to 8 years of experience in federal proposal writing, preferably within a federal contracting environment
- Strong knowledge of federal procurement regulations, including FAR and DFARS
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce high-quality and error-free proposal content under tight deadlines
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and persuasive proposal narratives that adheres to editorial guidance, style guides, and page limitations
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with subject matter experts, proposal managers, and other stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and multiple assignments simultaneously
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure compliance with RFP requirements and evaluation criteria
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with proposal development software and collaboration tools
- Ability to edit written content for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and clarity
- Ability to work independently and to work effectively with teams, including virtual teams
- Flexible and open to changing schedules and priorities
- Demonstrated experience identifying, decomposing, and developing responses to writing assignments
Preferred Qualifications and Skills Requirements:
- Master’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Technical Writing, or related field.
- Knowledge of the proposal development process
- Experience identifying, decomposing, and responding to Federal Government solicitations for technical, management, resume, and past performance information and narrative
- Ability to travel occasionally to support project work and team
- APMP Foundation Level Certification
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Active Secret clearance
Work Schedule:
- Hybrid – Flexible schedule with time spent working from home and working and collaborating in the Colorado Springs, CO office.
Scheduled Weekly Hours:
40 hours per week
Basic Compensation:
$61,000 – $90,000
