KC Pet Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that operates the municipal shelter for the City of Kansas City, MO as well as providing all animal control services for the City through our KC Campus for Animal Care, KC Pet Project has 14 locations in the Kansas City metropolitan area with pets available for adoption, including our Zona Rosa Pet Adoption Center and our Petco Adoption Center in Overland Park, KS. We care for more than 16,000 animals a year and are a national leader in the animal welfare industry.
KC Pet Project has received national recognition for our professional expertise in animal sheltering, shelter medicine, community programs, and marketing/communications. We have sustained a lifesaving rate above 90% for a decade and we are passionate about creating a caring, safe, and humane community for the people and pets of Kansas City and the surrounding region.
About the Position:
The Donor Engagement Coordinator is responsible for helping KC Pet Project achieve its goals and priorities by helping identify, qualify, and solicit Individual and Corporate prospects, as well as ensuring continued support from established and lapsed donors. This includes securing Gala donors and sponsors to help ensure the financial success of this event.
The Donor Engagement Coordinator’s work directly impacts the success of the KC Pet Project’s contributed revenue goals for both Individual and Corporate donations, as well as in association with the Gala. This position requires flexibility to support and assist the Development team on various projects and events, as needed.

Essential Functions:
- Help coordinate, organize, and implement Individual and Corporate fundraising strategic plans for assigned donors and prospects with the goal of securing donations to help reach KC Pet Project development departmental fundraising goals.
- Actively manage a portfolio of Individual and Corporate donors and prospects, and design and implement appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
- Assist with Individual and Corporate Major Gift ($10,000 ) prospect management and evaluation of all donations, in collaboration with executive staff, as needed.
- Coordinate the involvement of appropriate shelter staff and board members in the planning of solicitation strategies and stewardship activities.
- Help prepare proposals and presentations for donor prospects, solicit gifts, and negotiate gift agreements.
- Prioritize assigned portfolio based on potential and propensity to give, set plans for each prospect to include consistent communication, written and in-person.
- Determine the best approach to include invitations visits with KC Pet Project staff, tours connecting prospects to areas of interest, and personal visits.
- Meet specific goals for personal solicitations and shared dollar goals.
- Participate in planning and strategic direction for KC Pet Project.
- Passionately sells KC Pet Project’s commitment to pets and people in the community through inspirational presentations.
- Assist in identifying and managing a portfolio of qualified Individual and corporate donors and prospects to ensure positive and purposeful relationship development is maintained.
- Assist with all donor fulfillment/stewardship activities, to include contacting donors to express gratitude for their donation, and to help build the relationship.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of KC Pet Project’s strategic priorities to effectively articulate the mission of the organization.
- Document daily activities and donor communications in the donor database.
- Assist in managing the monthly giving program which may include strategic planning, execution, and stewardship.
- In addition to securing Gala funds, coordinate Gala sponsorship benefit execution, fulfillment, and donor stewardship.

- Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
- Participates in meetings with other KCPP personnel and share ideas to meet its lifesaving objectives.
- Assert proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, knowledge of Donor Perfect and Classy databases a plus.
- May be required to work some evenings, weekends, or holidays, depending on events and deadlines.
- Project a willingness and enthusiasm for a continued state of learning regarding animal welfare
- Strong background in strategically increasing revenues and managing projects and processes independently and with limited resources.
Qualifications/Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience
- Minimum two years fundraising, and non-profit experience required.
- Proven written, oral, and computer skills (Experience with development and fundraising platforms strongly preferred)
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Possession of valid driver’s license
